During Nintendo's "Summer Splatdown" event, the Splatoon Testfire Demo will be downloadable from the Nintendo eShop for free on Wii U. Anyone who launches the demo on August 25th-28th will be able to try the game for free between the hours of 3 to 5 PM PST. Only the Turf War game mode will be available to play, but anyone who hasn't yet tried the game should give it a shot!

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Splatoon Testfire Demo is back! What’s the “Testfire Demo,” you ask? Have you been living under a pool of colorful ink? From Aug. 25 to Aug. 28 between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. PT each day, anyone who owns a Wii Uconsole can download a free demo for the Splatoon game in Nintendo eShop! This Summer Splatdown event (as all the cool squid kids are calling it) gives you the chance to play Splatoon and experience its outrageously messy multiplayer gameplay.

All you have to do is download the demo and launch the Splatoon Testfire demo during the designated hours to fight it out in Turf War battles. This fun multiplayer mode pits you and three other players against an opposing team of four to cover the most territory possible with colorful ink. It’s one of the core modes of Splatoon and is the perfect introduction to what the game has to offer. During the Splatoon Testfire demo, players can try out four different weapons across two popular maps:

Weapons

  • Splattershot Jr.
  • Splattershot
  • Splat Roller
  • Splat Charger
Stages

  • Saltspray Rig
  • Walleye Warehouse
You’ll need an internet connection to participate, so make sure you have everything set up before the Testfire begins!

To date, ink blasted from all modes and Splatfests in Splatoon have covered 3 million virtual square miles, which is equal in size to Australia, or approximately the size of the contiguous United States! Splatoon has also sold over 4 million units worldwide since it launched last year.

The game is fun. Movement is key, if you enjoy slow sprinting and crouching over fast swimming and climbing then this game is probably not for you. Just give it a shot tbh. It's really the freshest spin on a shooter in years. Even Overwatch couldn't keep me away from Splatoon.

That is just it, that is your opinion. There is no reason to condecend someone else for how they feel about something. Can we get along please? Let's discuss this, So is a demo to played at specific time periods? Why does it sound like a beta test?

It originally was a beta test, they called it a global test fire. Its from 3-5 pt Aug 25-28th each day with limited maps and weapons to try out. This time around I think they are just trying to gain some more interest and hope it gains momentum like it did in Japan.

Give me 3 Reasons why? JUST 3. If you give me more, then bonus score for you. :)
Well actually, I have 1.5 reasons not to play it:
  • Wii U exclusive (so those without a Wii U can't play it obviously, and the price of a Wii U is too high for one game only)
  • no mouse, even though that's a requirement for shooters (though the gyro is better than just sticks, and this reason is only 0.5 since it's kind of a consequence of the previous one)
Other than that, here are reasons why you should :P
  • it's not the kind of game you see everywhere. I mean ok, some people like CoD, Battlefield and stuff better than Splatoon, but you can't deny that Splatoon is different. You will not compare CoD vs Splatoon the same way you'd compare CoD vs Battlefield (whatever your result is, like Splatoon << CoD < Battlefield or whatever)
  • It's one of the Wii U best sellers (https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/wiiu.html)
  • It's a limited offer in time. So even if you're sure you won't like it, why not confirm it? This way you're sure to have no regrets.
  • It's free :P

So is this some kind of beta test for some new expansion or sequeal?

First while not many people do not find wii u a popular console on the market, i have one and not afraid to say it. Is a nintendo game so it will be exclusive to that system, what were you hoping for a 3DS port? If is anything like resident evil or metal gear sold 3 on 3ds, it may not transition well.

The opinion of using a mouse with keyboard or some gyrosensor with Shooting games is a never ending debate. I personally will choose a controller over any other option, even wii mote, playstaion move or Xbox connet, or whatever. If i'm not pressing a button or moving some sticks then is not fun for me.

If i heard correctly splatoon is based on modern shooters.

That list is for japan, wondering how the other countries did in sales. Not to mention that a game by nintendo on nintendo system is a best seller, is not new.

The last too comments are safe from my reply, you are absolutly right. But the timing of the playability is something i don't quite understand. Only 2 hours during the weekend.

Nice try though.:P

I don't think so unfortunately, Splatoon went through random free updates and expansions every few months after release. I think those updates are over with now. The game also launched with limited content so these updates may have just been timed unlocks of in game content. The maps and weapons that will be available are all old and released. Whenever I play solo matches it's almost always all Japanese players. I think they are just trying to gain back interest in other countries.
