Hi Temp,

I wondered with the recent advancements in CFW development and ticket-handling, is there a way to protect themes installed as .cia from being deleted when you access the eShop yet? I looked around but couldn't find any recent threads.

Thanks for any info in advance! :)

afaik, this hasn't been solved yet, the only exceptions being the themes installed with CIAngel.

Thanks for the reply! Ah I see and as far I know CIAngel can only install legit themes right? Well I'm not sure if someone can explain this one for me but I have a self-made .cia with around 75 themes from 3DSthem.es and there is exactly one theme that always survives a visit to the eShop. Is this a known bug or might this help someone figuring out how to solve this?

For some reason my EUR (region-changed) o3DS, with custom themes, always survives the trips to the eshop. I am so thinking of making this my main system, buuuuuuut I haven't really bought much stuff on the EUR eshop, so it's like, IDK. Not worth. But yeah. It's really odd.

Hmm interesting :o If I install a theme with CHMM2 it sticks permanently too but as far as .cia themes go only that one Kosaki Onodera theme I have stays, every other theme uninstalls itself o.o Maybe it's worth looking into my theme.cia, I wouldn't know which dev to PM though :P And I definitely made some eShop purchases. I guess your Region Change might have influenced that somewhat maybe :o

I think themes are like DLC; If you buy some then pirate the rest, signing in with NNID will get rid of what you've pirated
Reworded for themes; If you buy a theme (even a free one :P) from the theme shop then install whatever you want with a custom .cia, all the customs get terminated

^This is what happens.
The only "solution" is to not buy any legit themes.
If you already have, then that NNID is going to do it everytime you sign in.

Odd.
Have you ever downloaded a free legit one from the theme shop?

Yeah I know why it happens but I wondered if maybe due to the advancements with FreeShop and CFW in general we could either fake the .cia as legit as far as the eShop goes atleast or maybe simply deny the eShop access from deleting things from the SD card. I did download free themes from the eShop so this might be what causes it for me :( I assume uninstalling the free themes wouldn't help?

Uninstalling them won't work because your right to having them is stored on your NNID, on Ninty's servers.
We can't sign theme cias afaik
And block eshop from deleting sd things is... an intersting approach, but it's likely that wouldn't work either.

However, unlinking your NNID by formatting and only getting things by piracy is one method, although if youre going to do that you cant even access eshop so theres no point :rofl2:

Ah okay I'm no dev so I'm just playing with some thoughts here, I only got the idea because we can now patch TWL and AGB on the fly so maybe we could tell the eShop that it has no permission to delete files or simply hide the theme extdata from it, not sure if it would error-out then though :o And well that's one method but it defeats the purpose yeah :P

Because you don't have a NNID..?
(Unless that isnt a thing)
Although it occurs to me you could make a new NNID and then always pirate things?
You can use the eShop normally without an NNID.
Also, yeah, you can, but it's likely that legit content on the original NNID may be deleted, as you'd be using multiple NNIDs on one system (and referring to the Terms of NNID services)

It shouldn't be deleted if you unlink by formatting?

Your NNID isn't ever unlinked unless you contact Nintendo.
When you format it unlinks so you have to put in the username and password doesn't it?
There's even the option to create a new one, which I did with my used n3ds which cam formatted.
