Hey guys!

Looking for a solution to a problem I'm having with my 3DS. I do not have a 3DS cartridge to test, but I have a DS cartridge in my 3DS with CFW (it's got an emuNAND and is updated on the emNAND with 9.2 on sysNAND and such).

The emuNAND can successfully detect and display the DS cartridge that I have in it (Animal Crossing : WW in this case), but when I select to play the game, it simply goes to a black screen and never plays the game.

I fear this may be the case as well with 3DS games (cant test unfortunately, but I figure fixing it for DS games will fix it for 3DS games).

How can I fix it so my 3DS plays DS (and 3DS) cartridge games. It plays 3DS .cia games absolutely no problemo.

are you trying to load the cartrige in sysnand or emunand?
you should use luma3ds instead of cakes

I'm trying to load it in emuNAND.

I had a really hard time finding a CFW that worked. I never head of luma but I like cakes as it worked (my 3DS seems very finicky for whatever reason. RXTools didnt work for loading the emuNAND)

Luma3DS automatically patches your TWL_FIRM, which is what you need to play DS games. I would suggest switching your CFW to Luma3DS.

Hrm okay. So the CFW that I choose to use to load the emuNAND is the CFW that "controls" the emuNAND, not the one used to install it? :o (sorry, I'm a bit noob)

Anyways, I know I don't have a 3ds cart to test, but is the TWL only for DS? Are 3DS carts likely to work?

Basically think of CFW as the 3DS' operating system. You can switch it on the fly just by changing files on your SD card. No need to "install" anything. Just simply remove you old CFW files from your SD, and put the files for Luma3DS on instead.

EDIT: Forgot to mention... yes, 3DS carts will still work fine. TWL_FIRM is for DS only.

Thanks for the information! I will look into luma3ds!

Which one is better anyway? I have ReiNand, but I might switch to Luma if the benefits are greater. Does Luma do everything ReiNand does, but with more features? I just dont know.

So how do I get it, but with ReiNand still on the SD? I have a boot manager. I know you have to do something with the boot.cfg, but I don't know what to do.
Replicate the entry for ReiNand in the boot.cfg file after dropping Luma3DS's installation files (3ds folder, Luma3DS.dat, and Luma folder) on the root of the SD card. To do this, all you must do is copy ReiNand's entry exactly, but instead of pointing to ReiNand's .3dsx file, point to Luma3DS's .3dsx file. Ultimately, you'd be better of replacing ReiNand with Luma3DS, because, as previously mentioned in this thread, Luma3DS started as a mod of ReiNand (called AuReiNand), but eventually became its own separate entity. Therefore, Luma3DS is ReiNand, however, it is more up-to-date with the latest goodies. Adding to that, Luma3DS is updated regularly; where regularly equals constantly times two.

EDIT: Example:

Line 1;
Line 2;
Line 3;
/path/to/ReiNand.3dsx;
Line 4;
----------------------------------
Line 1;
Line 2;
Line 3;
/path/to/Luma3DS.3dsx;
Line 4;
-----------------------------------

Ok, I just read on the wiki that if I use Luma3DS on a boot manager, that I won't be able to run GBA/DSi Ware. How can get around this?

I am really not the guy to answer that question, as I am not well educated in this field. If I had to guess, maybe patch AGB_FIRM? Just a guess (didn't day that to be sarcastic; I really don't know!).

it's also possible you have bent pins. Shine a flashlight into the cartridge slot and check if they are straight or not.

Had this problem on a free ds lite I got. Game shows up but white screens upon launch. Fixed by sticking a thin screwdriver in the cartridge slot and manually straightening them.
