Should we rely on DS flashcards to play our beloved DS classics, or should we move on to emulation?

  • DS flashcards are cheap and very accurate, so let's not waste our time with emulation.

  • 3DeSmume will likely add extra features that hardware based playback cannot dream of. And it's FREE.

  • Why not both? 3DeSmume compliments, rather than competes against flashcards.

  • We should do neither. They're both piracy and DS games suck anyway.

At the moment, I think flashcards are the way to go, as most are pretty solid at the moment, however in a few months, 3DeSmume will probably have progressed a lot and emulation will run quite smoothly, with savestates and cheat codes. At the moment, 3DeSmume is rather primitive, so flashcards are the better option, but in the future it will be your best option as it has those extra features and will be free. (I know flashcards are dirt cheap anyway, however, but getting stuff shipped from China takes ages xP)

Although I'd prefer to be proved wrong, I don't think the NDS emulator will work well on the 3DS. I'm glad people are working on it though for educational purposes and point of concept.

I think it would be funny if Nintendo did their own virtual console of the NDS. They would be like: "wow, it's actually possible! Now we can make money off this."

Nintendo can use the actual ARM7 core in the 3DS to run DS software....

flashcards are like $10

how cheap do you have to be to not want to spend $10 to get all the DS games you want. I mean its cool to see emulation(and if it actually progresses) but the fact people are begging for it in that other thread is ridiculous lmao

I think it's a waste of time/effort. There are plenty of other things to be ported that people can't pay $15 to play with perfect accuracy on the 3DS. That's significant considering how slim of a chance there is that it'll even be playable on the O3DS after all that work.

Of course, there are other reasons a dev could be interested in this project. It's up to them. But even if you managed to rig some hacky stereoscopic effect, I wouldn't use a DS emulator on the 3DS.

Off the SD card? Then why don't we see NDS virtual console games? I know we have some DSi games on the eShop (I think). Why are they avoiding this whole market of an amazing handheld?

Neither would I really, but the just like shutterbugs previous "port" of dosbox, it didn't take much time to do it.

Not everyone has a job or money, so take that into consideration

I'm pretty sure that defeats the purpose, lol
whats more important a few days with NDS games at crappy speeds before they die of starvation or some food for the guy with no money and no income :creep:

(im really not going to be convinced that NDS emulation is vital to someones life for the sake of $10)

Right now I'd say "stick to flashcarts", but if in the future 3DeSmume works almost as good as, if not better than DSi mode, then I'll suggest moving over to 3DeSmume.
