Should we rely on DS flashcards to play our beloved DS classics, or should we move on to emulation?

  • DS flashcards are cheap and very accurate, so let's not waste our time with emulation.

  • 3DeSmume will likely add extra features that hardware based playback cannot dream of. And it's FREE.

  • Why not both? 3DeSmume compliments, rather than competes against flashcards.

  • We should do neither. They're both piracy and DS games suck anyway.

Honestly I feel this should be developed further just to see how far it can go, but IMO if you truly want to play DS games the best method will still probably be flashcart. Not saying the emulator will never run, but even being optimistic it will likely never run full speed on old 3ds, so flashcart will likely always be the best option for those. As for the New 3ds, I'd have to wait and see how far 3DeSmume goes. If it can get good speeds then I see no reason to not give it a test before handing out money for a flashcart.

I think it doesn't need anything special to work in Luma. But maybe I installed something like flashcardtimewarp too.

Flashcardtimewarp is just a whitelist downgrade. Luma does that automatically, so there's no real difference.

eh i idk if you could do this with a ds game but some dude desolderd the rom chip on a gbc game and solder wires that go up to a removable chip holder and you can flash games onto the chip and its like a flash card you could connect the wires to an sd reader or some thing and make a flash card

Reverse engineer TWL_FIRM from factory, see if it has the same "load ROM from SD card" capability as factory AGB_FIRM and if yes, backport that to retail TWL_FIRM.

That's the only reasonable course of action.
