Homebrew [Debate][Poll] Flashcards vs. 3DeSmume

Should we rely on DS flashcards to play our beloved DS classics, or should we move on to emulation?

  • DS flashcards are cheap and very accurate, so let's not waste our time with emulation.

  • 3DeSmume will likely add extra features that hardware based playback cannot dream of. And it's FREE.

  • Why not both? 3DeSmume compliments, rather than competes against flashcards.

  • We should do neither. They're both piracy and DS games suck anyway.

Honestly, 3Dessmume would be a great alternative, most flashcards can't do save states, most CAN do cheats, but it's a pain in the ass to setup... except for ak2i afaik, which has a built in database

It would probably also allow for upscale filters, like xBRZ or straight up upscaling, like desmume x432r... if they add that

EDIT: this is from a person that has a 2011 r4i and an ak2i

Same for me. I have a GW bluecard but emulation sounds so much better. Ok, not native, not 100% compatibility and 100% speed maybe, but 100% features.

I own a 3DS R4i cart and I've no problems with this emulator project at all. Sure the developer might be sinking their time into something that could potentially be considered wasteful but that's their decision to make and if it ultimately proves to be fruitless then everyone here will still have flashcarts as a fallback for now.

Even if you consider it a waste of time that's only really the dev's time wasted, not yours. So just let shutterbug work on this and we'll see what comes of it in time. Most people here asking for some way to run DS games for free shouldn't even have the right to complain about this since it's a start and would prove to be a better solution even if it's not the optimal one.

There is no need for discussion, native execution of ds games is better.
+1 The emulator should be seen as a POC rather than a free alternative. It's rather redundant.

Same deal with GBA emulation vs. native support and yet we have both. Emulation might not work as well on O3DS as most would like but both are valid options on the N3DS series and emulation is a lot better simply due to how many more functions you receive through it.
