Hi everyone, i recently bought a 2DS (was running fw.6.0) and followed this tutorial
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/
to install rxtools, update to 9.2 and install emunand. Using a 32gb SD Card.
It worked perfectly!

I sadly had to take it back though because the battery was broken. It was only running for about a half hour after a full charge and then just died...
So i got a new one which was FW10.5.30
Followed this: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-1-(Homebrew)
until the 2DS was downgraded to 9.2.

After that, i continued with the rxtools tutorial again.
Everything worked fine until creating the emunand.
When i do the Complete EmuNAND Setup it says that there's already a GW Emunand, continued and waited till everything was done. After that i removed all the files from the sd card and put back all the files from the backup i made before the setup. rxTools tells me though that there's still no emunand :c
I tried it several times but i can't figure out what's wrong.

And yes, i cleaned the sd card several times in windows before putting it in the new 2DS, so everything from the old ds was gone.

Could someone please help me? I'm trying to get this running since more than 5 hours ;-;

Sorry for my bad english btw x_x

Hmm..
Is it safe to do that, now that i already booted rxtools and all that? I'm new to this whole 3DS hacking stuff and still a bit scared. I don't want to brick anything.
And do i need to remove any files before i should continue?

remove your boot.3dsx, boot_hb.3dsx and rxtools folder and follow this guide from here if you are already on 9.2 https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-3-(RedNAND)
The chance of brick is impossible if you follow every step correctly

from what I know you can't backup an emunand from one device to another they're all different... you should start from the beginning with the new device

BTW don't listen to people trying to tell you to use Luma instead of rxtools if that's what you want to use go ahead

I'll do that then, will update this later if i got it working!
Thank you very much for the fast response.

I cleaned the sd card before using the new 2DS. So the old nand shouldn't be there anymore.
I suppose.

CORRECTION: Listen to them because rxtools is highly outdated and unsafe, as well as has less features and is more unstable and unreliable in comparison of other cfws like luma3ds. don't spread misinformation

Correction: The chance of brick is minimal if you follow every step correctly. It is possible to brick by following everything correctly. Using the February guide, I bricked after following the guide correctly.

To say that a brick is impossible is asking for trouble. There's even been reports of the NAND chip wearing out after just a few restores.

wat? I think you meant rxTools.

But anyways, follow the guide as written, and you won't have any problems with it. You start changing things around and things go badly, that's on you, not the guide.

okay, so the chance of brick is 0.01% if your 3ds is cursed by Plailect and Margen67, happy?

The only reason people always bash on rxtools
Is it because you don't know how to help the person and the situation so it frustrates the community so you try to strip away their freedom of choice by coaxing them into switching to something else.. I'm not disagreeing with you I barely install on Luma last night and I've had no problems so far I still use rxtools and Gateway but Luma is a bit more simple

Removing the boot.3dsx file doesn't let me boot to homebrew launcher anymore (using menuhax)
So now i'm stuck at a red screen.
should i put it back in or do something else.

Although I agree with your overall point, the guide is much more stable than it was in February :P

Ugh, no idea what happened but, when i try to boot now.
After the red color is gone, the 3DS will turn pitch black and reboot, after that it won't reboot but nothing happens after the colors are gone.

I suppose.
Deleting the files from the SD card won't remove your emuNAND, since it's stored on a different partition. Formatting it through Windows' own formatting tool also won't remove the emuNAND, it only formats the main partition and leaves emuNAND alone.
It boot now!
But the tutorial says "Complete RedNAND setup"
I can't find this in the configuration settings though.

Put the latest HBL starter kit on the SD card (or at least the boot.3dsx from it)
Not sure why that guy told you to remove HBL and use Luma as the default, but it will make following the guide impossible.

Is there a way though to boot into Luma3DS/Emunand without the homebrew channel?
