So unfortunately my n3ds is broken in a weird way. It will not turn on or charge. I switched the battery with an o3DS battery and it worked fine, but a replacement n3DS battery had the same problem.

I'm still in my warranty period so I can send my 3DS to nintendo to be repaired, since no one in Toronto does 3ds repairs. Anyone know if there is anything I can do to keep all my a9LH while it's there, or is that a lost cause? Consider that I can still turn on and use the n3DS, just with an o3DS battery, which is obviously not a permanent solution.

Thanks bunches

I would remove A9LH, they can easily detect that A9LH is installed by looking at the SD card root or even just by trying to boot without the SD card in.
Maybe they wouldn't detect it if ShadowNAND is installed, it's the closest to stock you can get as it doesn't need an arm9loaderhax.bin and requires no files on the SD card.
But if they somehow find out, you're out of warranty.

Happy to remove A9LH and re-do the process, since it's hardly onerous. However, I've not heard of shadownand - can you go into more detail?

E: also, I'm not sure if the problem was liquid damage. There's a small white piece of what looks like paper with red dots on it under the battery on the bottom of the 3ds, which I think may be a liquid damage indicator. Is that the case? I've been unable to find a picture of it online.

It's a CFW that loads from NAND, I believe it's based on Luma with all the bloat removed.
When you send it in they will likely update your console, and you will need a hardmod to downgrade/reinstall A9LH.

So, why don't you use the o3ds battery?
Edit:- Oh yeah, it is not a permanent solution! xP

Doesn't fit in the n3DS unfortunately, they're different sizes and it does not stay in the actual 3ds. That is to say the batteries are perfectly compatible, but it falls out very easily since there's nothing but gravity holding it in place

make sure you make a backup of your nands! the new one can be restored using a hardmod or if you're somehow able to gain access to an emunand tool

im not trying to derail the topic but what is shadowNand and how could it help him? googled it and only the github showed up but there's no info on the page describing it.

Okay, I guess, you should contact Nintendo about it and ask them whether they have a solution to this, so that you do not have to send the 3ds and uninstall the A9LH..

I would try to find someone else with a working N3Ds and try his/her battery.
Already have, alas! Like I mentioned before, a non-XL battery works fine, but I've tried two XL batteries to no avail.

Also, just to ask again. Anyone know how you can determine if there's water damage that wouldn't be covered by a repair?

another option is taking it into the store you got it from, showing them it doesn't turn on, and they'll replace it for you if you've got the receipt and the warranty is still active. i've seen someone do this before. you'll have to go through the whole downgrade/A9LH process again which is possible because no new consoles have anything higher than 10.7 on them.

Not a bad idea! Unfortunately, I purchased the device from amazon, and they only have a 30 day return window. Shame.

then you may be right, it might be water damaged. bc a new battery won't help so that leaves me to believe it's a console issue.

ShadowNAND isn't out yet.
The n3DS battery is compatible with the old 3DS XL, and the o3DS battery is compatible with 2DS.
They're ALL technically compatible with each other, the o3DS battery fits the n3DS just fine. Just use tape beneath the battery cover and the only thing you would be missing is an hour of battery rather than your hacks.

Thanks for the ShadowNAND info. I see so many people mention ShadowNAND but couldn't find any real information.

If you send it in to Nintendo they WILL do a system transfer. You WILL get a new system, on 11.0.0-33, and none of you nand backups will matter because it WILL be a different system.

So long story short your honest best bet is to get a second system, hack it, and then do a system transfer yourself from an A9LH system to an A9LH system.

Otherwise you are gonna be out of luck all around unless you send your console to someone who can hardmod it which you already said won't work because you have nobody that lives around you to repair and/or hardmod.
