not as far as i know...if fw of console is too much updated it even got a backdoor to update while not recognised... he means: some r4's needs a reinstalled fw each year.

I mean does the flashcart play dead after a certain date
I thought it was pretty obvious
I've never heard of that happening. My old R4 still works fine, I use it in my DS Phat for dumping DS and GBA games.
i think he means that the card stops working after a certain date, like some of the r4 clones
Must be some pretty crappy clones. I doubt DSTwo would do something like that, they seem to have a pretty good reputation outside of the DSTwo+.

well I guess the answer so far is "no", unless someone has something else to say? and I guess time bomb was the wrong phrase to say really, because that would imply that the flashcart is pernamently dead but reinstalling the os fixes it on most flashcarts with a set date to break

no it doesn't have a "time bomb"
this time bomb you area talking about should only be present on the flashcarts that has a year on the sticker (for example 2014)

it's 2016 i can still use my dstwo just fine and my ds clock is correct

The answer is no, they do not stop working based on system time. Not all R4s do that either, usually just R4s with dates on them. (eg R4i Gold Pro Dual Core 2016)

In my case I used to reinstall the firm twice a moth before it died but it was a cheap clone (the R4)

coming from an original DSTWO owner not the new version without the screw. I can tell you mine works still to this day and has been through at least 100+hrs gameplay. only issue I have had since the day I got it is the "no find sd card" message but this is also present on my buddies model ( the new on without the screw)

I advise you to maybe be careful to what you install my friend/the same guy who has the new version had the same old model as me and he was trying out "bagplug gui" or whatever it is and ended up ruining his card Idk how or what he did. maybe dropped it or physically got the card wet but it ended up not working or reading at all afterwards.

DSTwo does not. All cards from r4isdhc.com made >=2014 have the "time bomb" set to 2018. But it doesn't brick them.

Some R4 clones do this, the DSTWO does not. Nor does the r4ids.cn R4i Gold. Both are great carts in their own right and if you want the extra features of the DSTWO (ingame cheat menu, cheat searching, built in CPU with SNES/GBA support to name a few) and think the price of the DSTWO is fair then go with that. Otherwise go with the r4ids.cn R4i Gold. Personally i have a DSTWO (it was still cheaper than buying a DS game, so to me that's more than worth it) and I'm satisfied with it.

Then you should know that one of the biggest reasons the DSTWO is so popular is because it just works. It's persisted across firmware updates better than any other cart, and rarely needed updating, and even when it did Team SC had an update ready and released within a day. Not that it matters that much anymore since DS games are no longer being released and Nintendo stopped blocking DS flashcarts long ago. Though if they do decide some day to put in a big effort to block DS flashcarts the DSTWO might be the only one that survives due to the built in CPU allowing it to emulate retail carts more closely :)
