Hacking Updating a bunch of stuff and question about region free priiloader settings

Hi there!
To kick off this post Id first like to get one thing clear about priiloader. When I go to "System menu hacks" and then enable "Region free channels", does that mean that I can run NTCS .wad Wiiware or virtual console games on my PAL wii? And are these settings to be used for PAL wii's too? Since Startpatch had different versions for NTCS and PAL. I have a bunch of NTCS vc games and Ive always been running them on USB Loader GX beceause when I try to run an NTCS on the default wii menu I get a "channel cant be used" line and itll kick me back to the wii menu. Im running low on space so I want to move all that stuff to my SD card (32gb SDHC Sandisk card). I cant run stuff thats on my SD card from USB Loader GX so that means Ill have to get rid of the region locked thingy.
Final question (on this part of the post): If I enable the "region free channels" (or the "Region free EVERYTHING") will I get rid of the "cant use this channel" and be able to just run the game on the wii system (and thus also the SD card)?


Now the next part is gonna be one long-ass thing, so bear with me please.
I used a pretty old guide on Youtube on how to softmod my Wii. I know I shouldnt have done it but I didnt know any better and managed to update pretty much everything manually. Everything went fine and it also made me install Priiloader (0.7 and not the latest 0.8, Ill get to my questions about updating it in a bit) and bootmii as IOS. I didnt even know what those apps were at the time but they gave me no issues so I didnt bother much with them.
As of now Im actually wanting to use both these programs. I want to use Priiloader to (hopefully) be able to just move all my vc games and wiiware to my SD card and use Bootmii to make a NAND backup in case anything goes wrong (and its never bad to have a backup anyway aint it?). As I already mentioned both my Priiloader and Bootmii are outdated or flawed.

Lets first get to the Priiloader part.
I currently have Priiloader v0.7 (r138) installed and it works pretty much like it should. Holding down the reset button while pressing the power button kicks me straight into Priiloader.
I just checked on https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/system-hacks/priiloader and saw that the latest version is 0.8. Now I want to update this since its always better to have the latest versions of programs. How exactly am I to do this? Can I just run the installer on the Homebrew channel and will it replace the old files for me and update as it should? Do I first need to delete or replace anything?

Up next is Bootmii.
When I was following the guide it made me install Bootmii as IOS. The "Launch Bootmii" option is there when I click the home button on the Wii remote. However, for some reason it takes me to MMM (MultiModManager). The screen goes black and shows the following line of text: cboot2 DOL loader v16. A bunch of text will show up and then itll load up MMM. This ALSO happens when I try to load Bootmii with the "Bootmii IOS" option in my Priiloader. I currently dont seem to be able to load up Bootmii in any way. How can I fix this? Can I re-install Bootmii as "boot2"? Are there any files I should delete before installing anything consulting Bootmii to prevent things from interfering with eachother?

As of now, trying to do anything with Priiloader without being able to load up Bootmii to restore a NAND backup seems like a foolish thing to do. Chances are always small that anything will go wrong but I dont wanna be a part of the 1% where things messed up and then being unable to unbrick my Wii.

Enabling Region Free EVERYTHING will enable everything that is a Region Free Option to enable. If Region Free EVERYTHING is on while another free region option is enabled it may either brick your Wii. Or corrupt some channels so use that with caution.

Just to be safe I would have all region settings set to on except region free everything to avoid the Wii thinking incorrectly.

If Region Free Channels are on that means you can download channels made from NTSC Wii's, KOR, or JAP Wii's. They will not appear on the Wii Shop Channel.

If the error does not stop happening when you run games. I would recommend using Region Free EVERYTHING, and make sure to disable the other region settings. Enabling them will cause issues.


Side effects with this hack will include the Wii Menu not loading instantly (small lag delay on start up)
Others if used INCORRECTLY include the Wii malfunctioning, or being unable to read Wii Discs.

Wii Games on USB Loader should work fine, after you enabled the Region Free Settings.


Now the confusing crap;

Basically, if you had installed BootMii as an IOS you will have to use Priiloader in the case your Wii Bricks. Using it as a boot2 does not require Priiloader. In matter of fact you can't install Priiloader with Bootmii as a boot2 or it will cause malfunctioning with your Wii System (A brick)

If you hold down reset, and go to "Bootmii IOS" you can get into Bootmii, and be able to recover your Wii NAND if you made a back up for it.


You can update Priiloader with Multi Mod Manager. OR the safer way is uninstalling Priiloader, and get the correct version of Priiloader, and reinstall it.


For Bootmii you can attempt (very riskfully) to uninstall it using LetterBomb, and reinstall it as an IOS. Doing so should save Bootmii, and make it function again. Just make sure Priiloader is uninstalled.

I used Hackmii for Bootmii and got the homebrew app for Priiloader from the official website. I first updated Priiloader by just running the installer. Im on the latest 0.8.1 now. Then I ran Hackmii and installed Bootmii as boot2. When I go into Priiloader by holding the reset button when pressing the power button I can get to Bootmii by pressing the "Bootmii IOS" option. It works just fine but isnt Bootmii supposed to launch by default anytime you boot up your Wii when it is installed as boot2? Beceause I still have to go to Priiloader first and launch it via the IOS option. If I mess up my Wii badly (like, dicking around with stuff like IOS') doesnt that mean I wont be able to launch Bootmii anymore?

I just enabled everything that had region free in it and it worked like a charm. I now have enabled only "region free EVERYTHING" and that works too so Ill follow your advice and keep it that way. Thanks a lot!

BootMii only runs if you have the files for it on your SD. It's not necessary to install it as an IOS if it installed as boot2.

Perhaps a SysCheck report would help.

Oh I had actually forgot.
You will need the following files for Bootmii to run;

Bootmii app folder

Bootmii folder on the surface of the SD Card. (Should contain a bunch of files)

You can also run a SysCheck on your Wii. But I would prefer looking in the computer before dealing with that (Put SD in slot, and verify files in it.)

Did you install Bootmii with Bootmii IOS?

Syscheck will tell whether BootMii is installed as boot2 or IOS or both.

I just ran syscheck and it says boot2 v4. Very strange beceause I did install Bootmii as boot2. Maybe the fact that Priiloader is already installed has something to do with it? It also says Im running Homebrew Channel v1.0.0 running on IOS 0 but I have 1.1.2 running on IOS 58 so I dont know where that comes from.
I do have a Bootmii app folder and I have a folder called "BOOTMII" on the root of my SD card. It has 3 files in it:
ARMBOOT.BIN
BOOTMII.INI
PPCBOOT.ELF
Im not really sure why it isnt working I did everything as I was supposed to do. Having Bootmii isnt really that important to me but having a brick protection is always worth the effort.

BootMii can only be installed as boot2 if you have an older Wii console that has the signing bug. It's not boot2 that's particularly special, it's boot1. It can't be modified and therefore cannot be patched by Nintendo. Boot process goes from boot0 (in GPU) > boot1 > boot2.

The HackMii Installer will tell you whether your console's boot2 can be replaced. Those 3 files are BootMii so they're only required to be present if you want to load it. They are the same for IOS or boot2. Priiloader is your only option for brick resistance if you have one of the newer consoles.

Well this IS a very old one. It still has gamecube controller ports and all that so its first gen (right?). I bought it from someone a few years ago and he told me he bought it in 2007. Ive seen people that have newer Wii's and they dont even have the install as boot2 option.

That does not mean you have a first gen Wii. We rather say a "Wii Version" if your referring to one console specificly (PS1, PS2, etc...) That is where you say first gen, second etc...

The Wii only provides the Original Wii, the Black Wii, and the Wii Mini which have little benifits, it doesn't really improve graphics. (With the exception of the Black Wii which has more pixels on screen than original.)

I had bought my Original Wii in 2008. I have no issues with installing Bootmii as a IOS as of in today's gen 2016. I find it odd you cannot install it, have you tried removing Stub IOS's on your Wii with Multi Mod Manager?


Edit: It does not matter what version you have whether it's boot2, boot1, or a IOS. Bootmii should work the same (Unless a WAD corrupts your game.) Other than that there is barley any difference unless you install WAD's on the Wii.
