Hi People,
a few weeks ago, i bought a 2DS, i followed the steps on https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki to Downgrade my System and install arm9loaderhax. All worked fine without any Problems. At this time, CakesFW was mentioned in the Tutorial, so i installed it.

Now it seems Luma3DS would maybe be the better Choice.

I updated to 11.0 a few days ago, and now want to switch from Cakes to Luma3DS.
But after searching the Forums and Google, i am more confused than before.

Can someone maybe tell me, what the right steps are to do this?

Hy there.
First step would be "Make an Backup" of your SD card (your should have one or two after the guide)
After that take a look at Plailect's Guide Part 5: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-5-(arm9loaderhax)
Follow the steps to change from Cakes to Luma3DS.

And ATTENTION with tips like the one above my post!!!!!!
MAKE A BACKUP off everything you will change before you change it!!!!!

That seems little excessive.
Just download Luma3DS and replace your arm9loaderhax.bin with the one provided by Luma.
Then delete the cakes folder.
No need to back up or anything, your current NAND should work just fine with Luma3DS.

CFW's don't effect your NANDs. All your games, saves, ect will be just fine.
How do I know? I am running a Quad-Boot right now on my sysNAND without issue.

No need for backups,

just delete arm9loaderhax.bin and cakes folder from sd

Download luma 3ds

Place arm9loaderhax.bin and luma folder on sd root (also no need to hold select the first time, luma will open the config menu on first boot so you can set all your options)

I just realized I am running a Penta-Boot
I actually use SaltFW as the main. From there I downloaded CtrBootManager9 with these settings
Code:
[general];
timeout=30;
recovery=3;
default=0;

[theme];
bgTop1=000000;
bgTop2=000000;
bgBottom=000000;
highlight=DCDCDC;
borders=FFFFFF;
font1=FFFFFF;
font2=000000;
bgImgTop=/bgTop.bin;
bgImgBot=/bgBot.bin;

[entry];
title=SaltFW;
path=/SaltFW.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=Luma3DS;
path=/Luma3ds.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=Mizuki;
path=/arm9select/default.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=ReiNand;
path=/ReiNand.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=Cakes;
path=/Cakes.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=Decrypt9;
path=/Decrypt9-A9LH.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=Uncart;
path=/Uncart.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;

[entry];
title=EmuNAND9;
path=/EmuNAND9.bin;
offset=0;
key=-1;
Like it shows, I simply renamed them to not conflict with the default arm9loaderhax.bin. ReiNAND is just as simple as renaming the arm9loaderhax.bin to reinand.bin and it worked. CakeFW required me to to convert the Cakes.dat to Cakes.bin using this terminal command
Code:
dd if=Cakes.dat of=Cakes.bin bs=512 skip=144
SaltFW actually comes with a pre-patched launcher for bootloaders.
And Mizuki required me to make a folder named "arm9select" and rename the "arm9loaderhax.bin" to "default.bin" and place it in the arm9select folder, because that's one of the only default reset points without the need for hex editing. (Mizuki is no longer available to the public though.)
From there I download the nightly Luma3DS launcher with a custom payload from this site
http://luma3ds.ericchu.net/
After everything was set up, it's just about making sure everything in the a9lh.cfg links to the right loader.
Now, I just need to hold "Start" to boot into CtrBootManager9 and boot into the other CFW's/A9LH applications.

I think it depends on what you are doing with your 3DS :)
For gaming it is "excessive"!
But for testing and trying some other things it is not much IMHO.

Why so many CFW? Isn't Luma + Decrypt 9/Emunand 9 all you really need? Seems very excessive to me.
Because I do testing for the community. SaltFW is simply my main CFW for gaming, but I also help test out features and updates. It's something small, but it helps when a popular member confirms if a CFW works after an update or if a new feature is introduced and it's confirmed working.
I also do it so I can better understand the CFW's and help when I am able to help.

I am also a CFW slut and enjoy having options.
