so, I converted a hackrom (crystaldust, a hack of emerald) to .cia format. every time I beat the elite four, (when you're supposed to reappear at new bark town and travel to Kanto) my save data is deleted completely. doing this on my PC using VBA works fine, but it always deletes save data completely on my 3ds. how do I fix this? also, is there a way to remove the "save data is corrupted, the previous save will be loaded" message when loading up the game? I know the save data isn't corrupted, because it starts me exactly were my last save was. thanks in advance! also, if this thread is in the wrong section, could a mod move it to the correct place and inform me where I SHOULD have posted this? again, thank you.

You need to hex edit the ROM and fix its saves for it to work.

Unfortunately the lack of proper save support for the Pokemon GBA games and the patch used means that the save gets wiped (the save space allocated is too small). (Edit - Okay . appears there's a newer solution I was unaware of , go with the above then and see if it works)

For the second issue your save is corrupted, it's just that Pokemon stores 2 checksummed saves and if the normal one fails the checksum it defaults to the other while displaying that message.

Just to let you know, you hex edit the GBA ROM, not the produced CIA.
thanks, but the tut you linked to doesn't help me at all. I don't know how to find the strings they mentioned. I'm using HxD, if it matters. I am using the .gba, not the .cia.

is there a way to bypass that? it's just really annoying. in the R/S/E days, I once went from roxanne to the elite 4 (and beat the elite 4) without saving. then my save was corrupted and I had to start back at Roxanne. so it makes me really paranoid to see it, even if it's not really corrupted.

I don't know how to find the strings they mentioned.

Forgive me if this isn't what you meant, but it's very simple - just search for the string of hex values in the file like you would in a web browser with CTRL+F.

I edited the strings according to the tutorial, beat the elite 4, then my save data was erased. no idea what's going wrong. it works fine in VBA 1.8.
