Hi guys,

So I've finally decided to upgrade my CycloDS to the R4i Gold 3DS (r4ids.cn) for my DS Lite for obvious reason.

Anyway, as I owned the original R4 before, I know the in the original R4, it will just load up straight after the health warning without requiring me to "touch the screen to continue".

However, for the R4i Gold 3DS, I realize that it does not skip the health warning screen automatically. Instead, it acts like the retail cartridge, except that it is a spoof one. I figured out this is possibly to facilitate the loading of R4i Gold 3DS on the DSi and 3DS.

Since I am not going to use my R4i Gold 3DS for my 3DS or DSi, I wonder if it is possible to "downgrade" it to a solely DS Lite cartridge with auto skipping of health warning screen and auto load up.

I'm pretty sure it isn't possible. These carts were built with the DSi and 3DS in mind so they've rempved the feature to boot directly

you can flash the ds lite firmware to remove the health and safety screen
however there is a small risk of bricking of course...
it will require you to short a connection inside the battery port to flash it.
i did flash mine, but blowed a fuse in the first attempt because i used a bad piece of metal and touched where i was not supposed to touch
but if you use a flat screwdriver it will be fine.

Ok thanks guys for you replies. Cause I saw videos of people with the previous version of the cart (R4i Gold) being able to skip the health warning screen and boot up directly on the DS Lite, yet appear as spoof retail carts when booting up in DSi, so I thought I might have missed something hehe :P

Your best bet is to flash the CFW known as Flashme onto your DS
It's not easy to come by these days so here's an old back up that I kept

There's a small chance of bricking, but it's easy to recover from as long as you installed at least 1% of flashme.

Another advantage to flashing flashme is that it also provides brick protection against rogue software after the initial install.

Ok got it I guess I will just stick to loading my cart as a spoof retail cart as I have absolutely no confidence in flashing my DS with CFW.

I'm considering this, does it only do the H&S skip for autoboot? Meaning, If I have pokemon platinum on cart to transfer to pokemon black and I have to use download play, I can still do that. What's all this stuff about passme, too? I just need to use the r4 for the flashing, right?

Some flashcarts do this and some don't. I don't think it has anything to do with DSi/3DS support, it's just down to whether the flashcart manufacturer chose to include it or not. But it probably wouldn't be possible to make a flashcart autoboot without modding the firmware.

IIRC it completely removes the H&S screen, without a cart inserted you'll just boot directly to the menu. I might be wrong on that though, I used the stealth version of FlashMe on my DS, which doesn't remove the H&S screen.

Yeah but for Platinum transfer you have to have it in slot-1 and then use download menu from the bios, can you still do manual-boot with flashme?

Also, is a little flathead good for bridging or a bad idea?

I think there's a button you can hold to disable autoboot. Worst case scenario just eject the cart before powering on.
I did the mod on a phat, I've heard it's more risky on a lite. I used a q-tip cut in half with aluminum foil on the end and tape around it.
