I ask this question because tomorrow I'm supposed to buy a "new" 3ds xl in a bestbuy (hopefully not at the very latest firmware) and downgrade it to 9.2 with ninjhax or browserhax, but when it comes to cfw, is rxtool as good with N3DS? Because i have no problem with my O3DS.
If so, is it the same exact procedure? Are there different steps?

Thanks

Using Reinand with n3DS let you play the same 3DS .cia games as using rxTools for o3DS? I heard something about n3DS not being able to become region free, and also not loading GBA games. Is that correct?

ReiNand already added those features. And RxTools is the one with the GBA problem.

Oh... I didn't know that and last week ended up buying a o3DS... :(
(So many tutorials out there, I think it's actually a little confusing)

So, these days there's not really any advantage for having a o3DS vs n3DS right?

Please don't fix things for me. I stand by what I said and in truth, Reinand is probably better than you think. I know @Reisyukaku has been hard at work with it and Aureinand and Reinand do the same thing with only some addons from Aureinand that some people would call "useless". Don't get me wrong though, I love Aureinand. It's my current cfw, but I feel like people should be told to try Reinand with a n3ds at least. It's minimal, but still gives you the necessities.

  1. a couple of games (xenoblade, binding of isaac) and some of the virtual console (SNES, GBA) are exclusive for new 3DS.
  2. some games perform a little better on the new 3DS, even though they are compatible with old 3DS.
  3. some homebrews & emulators may perform better on new 3DS.
  4. NFC is built-in to new 3DS, while old 3DS requires an NFC adapter (sold separately). this only matters if you care about using amiibo cards & figures.
  5. 3D visual effect has wider viewing angle on new 3DS.

if you place a great deal of importance on those features, then new 3DS is a lot better than old 3DS.

if those features don't matter to you, and all you want is basic ability to play 3DS games, then new 3DS is not much better than old 3DS.

There's virtually no reason to use rxtools anymore. Reinand, AuReiNand and even cakes are superior now. The time of rxtools is over, they just weren't keeping up with the really important things.

Personally I use reinand. It now has every feature you'd want and all bugs fixed and also works on o3ds now.

Thanks! But you said earlier: 'They both have their advantages and disadvantages', and all I can read here are advantages of n3DS over o3DS.
So these days having a o3DS has no advantages at all?

The old 3DS does have advantages in my opinion (I have both a O3DS XL and a N3DS XL).
  • It has a usable stick on the right when using a Circle Pad Pro (not compatible with Smash but tons better than the ridiculous thing on the N3DS when playing MH. I ordered a PSP 1000 cap to try the "mod" everyone is talking about but I didn't try it yet...)
  • You can ragequit in online games thanks to the button to enable/disable wireless
  • Button placement is better in my opinion. Pressing Power on the N3DS requires two fingers, even when the N3DS is laying on a table. While only one finger is doable for the O3DS when on a table
  • The SD card can be taken out of the O3DS without opening the back
Can't think of other things right now but maybe there are.

The by far greatest advantage of the N3DS is the stable 3D. I hated, hated, HATED 3D on O3DS because it was so unbelievably sensitive when it came to slightest movements, I always played in 2D because it was so annoying. The stable 3D on the N3DS is reason alone to get it.
