Hacking new o3ds xl firmware

I'm buying a new o3ds xl. Does anyone know what firmware it would be on, is it likely to be 10.5 or lower?

IIRC any O3DS has a FW of 8.1 or less. If you're talking about 2DS, then the latest models have 9.9/ 10.5.
On the latest N3DSes, the FW is 10.3.

No 3ds whatsoever ships with 10.3 even. Most are still on 9.9.

Yep. As long as it's under 10.6 you can downgrade to 9.2 using browser/menuhax. 10.6 - 10.7 you can still downgrade and install CFW but you need Cubic Ninja or OOT3DS+powersaves.

Yes, my FE 3ds came with 10.3 firmware.

i don't think i've ever seen an old 3ds above 8.1 even lower is possible they've all been sitting on shelves for so long.
new 3ds and some 2ds's can be up to 10.3

EDIT: i have a question why are you buying a new o3ds i haven't seen them for less than $159 and with new 3ds's $175 right now they're certainly worth the $16 price difference.
the only reason to get a o3ds is if you're buying one for dirt cheap

My mario and luigi dream team 3ds came in 10.3 it does depend on the model. I doubt that thereare any higher than 10.4 though

Are you sure your 3DS wasn't used? When MLDTB came out, I'm not even sure the 7.x update was out.

It was new but it could be possible that it came out of the factory later on or a newer revision

Well now, new 3ds can play snes virtual console and o3ds cannot. It alo has minor improvements on a few gams

If you're planning to use Emulators and homebrews, and like improved (loading times) stability™ take the N3DS. If you don't care, you can take the O3DS XL.

the mario and luigi dream team 3ds came out in 2013 on fw6.2 it was a year of luigi holiday season exclusive.
not only that but nintendo stopped manufacturing o3ds when they started the n3ds, if you find an o3ds anywhere with even a 9.0 firmware on it it's been used.
