During Nintendo's earning reports Nintendo's CEO gave some details on the Club Nintendo replacement known as MyNintendo.

In March, the new points reward program will be going on in Japan coming later that month everywhere else.

He also gave some light on how it would work you can earn points by doing the following.

  • Playing games on your smartphone
  • Using the Eshop to meet specific conditions

Gold points are earned from 3DS and WII U downloadable software and platinum points are the ones that can be exchanged for physical goodies. While on the other hand gold points can get you discount coupons for Eshop games.

@Taleweaver made a more clear version of what I did for rewards

"You can earn platinum points by doing things like playing Nintendo games on your smartphone, opening the eShop on a Nintendo console, and "satisfying special conditions," " ... "Platinum points can be exchanged for digital contents and original products,"

"gold points are garnered through the purchase of 3DS and Wii U downloadable software" ..."gold points get you discount coupons for eShop games."

So basically...if I play ninty's smartphone games long enough, I can get a (virtual) stuffed animal kind of prize, but not a discount on an actual game. On the other hand, buying everything in the eshop won't get me closer to a Princess Peach vibrator (assuming they'll ever make one).

To be honest, the OP isn't as clear as what the points do rather than the actual article (perhaps this was updated? ) :

Seems like they are changing their focus to mobile free to play/free to start games. Since their f2p games on 3ds are racking up tons of cash! Goodbye to the old Nintendo that makes fun games that doesn't require forking out tons of money into micro transactions:(

No reward for physical games, only crappy theme and discount for digital purchases. So basically a crappy ver of Club Nintendo.

I guess their approach of the new reward system is more geared toward their business venture into the mobile industry, since people who buy their console games will still buy it regardless of whether there are rewards or not. Those f2p games requires more motivation etc to get people hooked...

Nevertheless I am still going to preregister for the reward system on 17 Feb and see what they have to offer for physical rewards. Hope they don't screw this up, I really miss the old Club Nintendo JP:(

So I just gotta play Pokemon Go all day (Which I'll do anyway) and get all the goodies? Nice!
Seriously, they'll better make this good, it seems worse than the old club.

I'm confused. I already have a Nintendo Network ID. What is this over and above that? And why can't we use our NNID for whatever this is, rather than having to sign up again???
