The last time I was really active, my JP N3DS loaded Gateway from the DS Profile menu and I booted HBmenu and Reinand and thus 9.5 emunand with Ninjhax.I used then NTR 2.1 to load a regionfree profile to play my US cards.

I've been playing around today and got everything patched up to coldbooting 10.5 Reinand, but I'm not sure if the solutions for getting region free on cards has changed or not --is it still booting into NTR or rxtools after booting into emunand, or has there been a more permanent solution devised since?

Thanks.

Edit: What's the name of NTR 2.1 so I can uninstall it?

Run NTR, Free multi Patcher or Region Free Patcher after you boot your emuNAND. There's still no built-in region free on CFWs that aren't Gateway/RxTools.

I'm a bit rusty, how do I update/uninstall the old NTR?

Grab the latest BootNTR.cia and latest ntr.bin, install the CIA, and put the ntr.bin on the root of your SD card. If you'd like a version that auto exits after it succeeds, you can grab ShadowTrance's fork at https://github.com/Shadowtrance/BootNTR/releases (it also comes with a regular version which has you press home or start).

That won't result in two NTR icons, one old, one new, would it?

As long as it has the same title ID as the old BootNTR then it'll just overwrite the old one (or do what SomeGamer said). While we're on the subject of banners, if you want to see the new one that ShadowTrance added, uninstall the old BootNTR CIA first before installing his, then reboot the console and install the new one (or you'll still see the old 2D one).

Odd. I'm not seeing it, but I see "Config," "CTR Card", "BigBlueMenu", "CTR-N-XXXX" etc but no BootNTR. Of course, the thing is sitting there right on my emunand home menu.

What are you using to try and delete it? BigBlueMenu? If so, you're looking for "CTR-P-BNTR" or Title ID 0x0004000000b00000.
