Hacking is there a safe method to downgrade a N3DS XL ?

It seems that there was a lot of bricks regarding N3DS XL with the method disclosed at CCC. Is there now a safe method to downgrade from 9.8 to 9.2 on a N3DS XL ?

Some brick risk is always there, the safest way currently is using safesysupdater.

I think the most secure method right now for n3ds users is safesysupdater, but it's not a 100% success method as SomeGamer said above

Ok but safesysupdater was improved since initial release or it is still the same rate of bricks ?

Do i need a hardmod too to recover from bricks ?

In very rare cases. If your downgrade fails, you can update to 10.5 to have a working 3DS, but no CFWs there.

From what I understand its very rare that you end up bricking your 3DS (if you follow the instructions). Worst case scenario you would have to get someone to hard mod your system

Ha didn't know about this method, you mean by hardmod the easy 4 wire mod or something more complicated ?

I've never needed it but if in the WORST case your system does need a hard mod you can generally ship it off to a few people here and they will do it for cheap. Like I said this is the worst case scenario so it's unlikely you'll need to do it.

1. A safer version of sys updater was released a few days after the exploit came out, that was much safer and made the chance of hard brick theoretically 0, assuming you don't do something stupid like install a FW from another region or 3DS model.

2. An even safer version of sys updater called SafeSysupdater was released that now checks if you have the right firmware before installation in case you can't follow simple instructions.

3. Downgrading from a firmware that is not 10.3 has a high risk of failing, and resulting in a soft brick that will force you to 10.5 to recover the 3ds. Me and a bunch of users had this problem when downgrading from 9.4 - 9.9. This wasn't a problem because we could just restore to 10.3 and downgrade successfully from there, but you're screwed.

Tl; dr There's always a risk of bricking when modifying ANY system, and you might be screwed because now because you were too scared to go through with it.

I just completed a downgrade on a N3DS XL yesterday for a friend. I would suggest updating to 10.3 first then downgrading to 9.2. The newest version of SafeSysUpdater worked on the first try for me. would it be better for the OP to use safesysupdater to UPDATE to 10.3 then downgrade from there then?

safesysupdater only allows you to downgrade (i think)?.. I just used the normal sysupdater to install 10.3 then used safesysupdater to downgrade. They are the same program, safesysupdater just verifies the files w/ your 3ds before proceeding!

Hello! First, sry for my bad english!
I finaly downgrade my new3ds! But before it works, i softbrickt another on. The softbrick was after a downgrade from 9.6 to 9.2 with safesysupdater.
I sell this 3ds and buy a new one.
On the new-new3ds i update 9.6 to 10.3 using sysupdate (from page 95) and then i downgrade 10.3 to 9.2 also with sysupdate. This works without any problems.
Now i'm on 9.2 and install ReiNand, but ReiNand shows me only a blackscreen or an redscreen. I downloaded the firmware.bin and put it in the rei-folder.
