Homebrew O3DS 5.1.0-11 Firmware. Now What?

I have a 3DS XL ACNL special edition 3DS with firmware 5.1.0-11U currently on it.

I would like to install CIA files on my console or maybe even a custom firmware. Since my firmware version is so low, what would I need to do go install a CFW or CIA files? I tried installing Browserhax after a successful onstal today on my 9.5 old 3DS and it just keeps crashing, doesn't even show color. So I'm assuming it doesn't work for such an old firmware all together.

What would I need to begin hacking? Any help is appreciated. Any firmwares I could install that people would recommend?
