So I got the save file on my OOT cart with my R4i dongle, I've got a gateway red card, and I dropped the latest launcher.dat on my 3ds' sd card. I'm following this guide.

http://maxconsole.com/maxconsole_files/GW-3-7-1.pdf

It's an NA 3DS XL on 10.3 that I'm attempting to downgrade (Yes I know it's likely I'll brick it, I promise I won't cry if that happens.)

So, what's happening is I load up the modded Zelda save, everything looks as it should, I press A, and my console freezes. That's the end of the story pretty much. I have replaced the launcher.dat thinking it was corrupted or something but it didn't change anything. Any ideas? Sorry I suck. Thanks.

Gateway does not work on 9.2+. You need to run the Homebrew launcher before you run OOThax.

The easiest way to go about this is do the following:

1. Download the Homebrew Package (http://smealum.github.io/3ds/) and throw it on the internal SD.

2. Download the 3DS FW Downgrader and the files for 9.2. (I can't provide the files. Google it and you can find it. MAKE SURE IT MATCHES YOUR SYSTEM AND REGION.)Throw the files for it on the internal SD card. ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888)

3A. You can skip this and use OOT3dhax if you want. I personally prefer browserhax.

NOTE: Browserhax is a little tricky. You need to use spiderhax. If you need help, lemme know, I can try my best to help you.

4. Once you load the homebrew menu, you can do 1 of 2 options.

4A. Install Menuhax just in case your downgrade doesn't load/fails, then continue to step 5.

4B. Go straight to step 5 and skip installing Menuhax.

5. Run the 3DS FW Downgrader and downgrade your 3ds to 9.2.

6. Do what you were doing, run the OOT exploit.

Sometimes the OOT exploit can fail, if that does happen, lemme know. There are multiple save files you can download to fix this.

Then you just format, install Emunand (AND BACK UP YOUR SYSNAND FOR GOD'S SAKE), and you'll be good to go!

K, so I'm able to get into the homebrew menu via browserhax, but the downgrade gets stuck right at the beginning with "failed to get CIA file info!". Certain I have the right files.

I reinstalled the OOT hack with the homebrew menu and that works now as well. I tried downgrading from there as well and it's freezing before I get to that point. I'm supposed to be using the sysupdate option right? Thanks again.

Menuhax has the highest success rate so try using menuhax for sysupdater. Also before you initialize sysupdater from menuhax, go into ftbrony first, exit out again by pression b twice, then go to sysupdater and press y

I would suggest installing Shuffle/Menuhax for your 3DS so you can coldboot into Homebrew Channel (Hold L once you turn the 3DS on to go directly there, no OOT or Internet Browser needed after first install) then try the downgrade from there.

Since the downgrade is going to take many many many tries to get going, this is the best way to do it since you can just pull the battery out if the app doesnt load and reboot into HBC with relative ease. Way faster than booting OOT/Internet/Cubic Ninja every time you need to restart.

Make sure you have the right files. I downloaded files from one site and they didn't work. I used the files from that one 3ds rom site that we are know of, and they worked fine.

Use SafeSysUpdater instead: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wip-safesysupdater.409392/

I kept trying it over and over until it worked. I installed menuhax and made it work with no buttons pressed. Then I changed the hbl boot.3dsx into boothbl.3dsx and sysupdater.3dsx into boot.3dsx. Whenever the console booted, menuhax would load and start sysupdater. When sysupdater gave the failed to get cia info error, I pressed B to back out, which reloads the boot.3dsx. Because I changed this, it was able to keep loading sysupdater much faster than restarting the console every time or exiting to the homebrew menu and trying again.

That's hilariously frustrating.

I'll give this a shot tomorrow and report back
