Why's that? It's not like Cemu has some kind of drm attached to it. Unlike those... *shudder* sega emulators...
Devolution also has DRM for a dead console.

Cemu doesn't have DRM but the reasons behind it are Morals™ because Exzap says:
Exzap said:
It's already possible to cheat online on certain Wii Us, and so what if Cemu is used for cheating online? It's Nintendo's responsibility to ban cheaters from online. If Nintendo can't ban cheaters that's their problem.

Being open source doesn't mean you have to accept all pull requests as explained in this post.
It's possible to be open source but still only allow certain people to contribute.
If Exzap is that worried about what other people might do with his precious source then why isn't he worried about what people already do with the emulator as is?
Certain users won't care how much effort was put into it regardless of whether or not it's open source.

But, then again, the arguing would 'never end' (I love how my image was taken down lol how pathetic) so there's no need for Cemu developers to explain or justify anything, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cemu devs have a private repo they can make public.

Yes, I know there's an open source Wii U emulator.
And no, I don't have programming experience.

Imagine that few devs are arguing about gfx backends, whether to support Ogl, Dx11-12 or Vulkan, and everyone makes his own fork. With hacks it gets even worse. If project can't be well managed it better not be open source.
Name one time that has happened.

He doesn't. He's too afraid of his precious source code being used to go against his Morals™
God forbid anyone having personal reasons for anything! All efforts by everyone belong to the public, obviously, as keeping anything private is selfish. On that note, I request a full "open source" of your documents folder, because it's the right thing to do. All you have to do is upload it?

That's not a good analogy.
My documents folder is not source code. Cemu is.
Cemu's source code doesn't consist of nude pics or something.
The developers would not be negatively affected by the source being released.

I never said people can't have reasons. I'm just pointing out how it's wrong.
I also never said:
1. Everyone is entitled to the source code
2. It belongs to the public
3. Everyone deserves the source code

And Exzap's reasoning is in fact selfish.
adjective: selfish
(of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.

didn't checked this thread since release I guess. Is it possible to play with decent speed now?

If Cemu is open source, Most likely somebody will make a pull request and ruin the emulator but that is something I heard months ago.

How can you be so sure? There are many cases where a source release could negatively affect a developer, from the code being of poor quality and hurting their reputation, or from specific developments clearly made with use of internal/identifying information or tools. These could also be similar to why you might not want to share your documents folder. Saying that there are no negatives is rather naive.

Saying that it's selfish implies that you believe all 3 of those things...

Name one time that has happened.
Dolphin for example where you have master with Ogl/Dx11, Ishiiruka with Dx9, branch with Dx12 (though it's likely to be merged), wiispeak branch etc... You also have rpcs3 where one person introduced hacks to enable games to run, but those are "dirty" hacks and that person is inexperienced so his pull requests are mostly neglected, so he made his own branch. I agree that this point is a little exagerrated, but there are cases.

Three reasons:
  • WiiU's rendering API is remotely based on OpenGL, therefore it makes sense to use a similar API on PC.
  • OpenGL is multi-platform. Making ports easier in the future.
  • The situations in which DX12 is faster are not relevant in Cemu. So performance is not a decisive factor. The same will probably be true for the upcoming Vulkan API.
On a side note, we are going to bump the required OpenGL version to 4.5 (latest) soon. Need those cutting-edge features.

No, the cemu developers atm are only @Petergov and me.

So, you're saying that soon we will need GPU with OpenGL 4.5 support to run Cemu? So, my HD 7750 can go to trash?

That was poorly worded. There is no way of knowing for sure what would happen once the source is released.

Yes, but those forks don't just make the developers unable to work on the main repo.
The main repo and fork can coexist without the fork affecting the main repo in any way.

If anything that's an example of why being open source is good.
If Dolphin was still closed source then Ishiiruka wouldn't be possible.

god forbid someone doesn't want to release the source to something lol

Make your own emulator and let Exzap do whatever he wants with his emulator.
