EDIT: Brick - Very yes.

Okay, heres my situation. I wanted to downgrade my 3DS to 4.x via Gateway. Heres what I did:
- Opened Gateway.
- Made a NAND backup (it was necessary.)
- Attempted to downgrade. Silly me, I needed gateway.dg.
- Got gateway.dg.
- Attempted to turn my 3DS on, but the screens stayed black and only the lights show an indication of being on.
- Shit.
- Tried to turn it on without the SD card. No luck.
- Tried to turn it on in Recovery Mode. Still no luck.

This was after I downgraded to 9.2 from 10.3 (I have two 3DS', I wanted one to have mset.) I want to emphasize this because I've never seen this problem before. If its bricked and I cant fix it, i'm not too bummed. I know they'res a place you can send it to to have it replaced. Thanks guys.

If u want it fixed for free you could try sending it to Nintendo (risky since there's a chance 10.4 would come out before you get it back). Alternatively ask around for whoever does hardmods, you have a nand backup so ur good with a hardmod

Well I don't know if you bricked your 3DS (which you most likely did), but if you made a NAND backup of your 3DS on 10.3 then you are in luck. A hardmod can be done with a user-friendly tutorial and you can fix your 3DS.
Aye, thanks for that info. I'm pretty sure i'll need to do this, its still not turning on. Any tutorial you know of?

No I don't know any tutorials you will have to research that yourself. If it isn't turning on try charging the battery (see if the battery charging light turns on)

Sorry for the 3DS but why downgrade from 9.2 to 4.5 no one uses that firmware anymore especially since it breaks saves and most if not all homebrew/games require 9.2

No it makes no difference it was an unnecessary step dont know who told you that or were you read it.
I currently have two 3DS', so I think that having one with MSET capabilities would be nice. Besides, i'll have emunand on it for better capabilities.

It does, I usually keep it on a charger 24/7 unless im taking it somewhere.

what model is it? the XL isnt too bad for people who have moderate experience soldering, the smaller o3DS is trickier, unless you already have soldering gear you would probably be not much worse off having it done by someone else.....even if you ask around for friends/family who can do it.

basically the nand mod isn't the beginners choice for learning to solder unless you really dont care if you screw it up permanently :)

I know, this reply doesn't help you in the least, but that was somewhat foolish (don't be offended...).
  1. I understand why you did the downgrade from 10.3 to 9.2, even though I would recommend any user to wait with that now, until the exploit is more stable. As things are now, everyone is a guinea pig.
  2. I don't understand why you did the downgrade to 4.x. There is really no use at all with that now. Or is it? Plus, GWs downgrade routines are dirty and dangerous and - at best - leave a mess in your NAND that can only be manually cleaned up. Using the GW downgrade routines after another dangerous operation actually increases the risk of something going wrong. Even if you did everything right.
I hope you'll get this fixed. Be careful...

Have any proof to backup those claims?

There was a thread here on this forum that kept track if people got bricked when using the GW downgrader. The outcome was that it pretty much worked for everyone safely without bricking.

I can't say the same for the 10.3 to 9.2 downgrades...

actually not everyone, but the only GW downgrade bricks afaik were with people using the Chinese downgrade pack on Japanese consoles (or something along those lines i forget the exact regions in question), but that was only with the initial downgrade FW and was since fixed to prevent people using the incorrect DG packs

It is about how these downgrades are done. They leave a lot of garbage on your system, and if you do it more than once, the garbage gets multiplied. I first noticed with the Universal Inject Generator project (check my signature...) where GW users complained that the injection doesn't work for them, this leading to me investigating about the reason. And yes, GW could have coded that feature a lot cleaner.

Maybe there are no direct bricks from the GW downgrade (if done right), but that doesn't mean that this operation won't bring you any problems later on. Especially if you like to try various exploits such as these.
