Hacking Bricked N3DS after doing nothing.

Gw has the only public 8.1 rop and it was changed in 9.0. Currently the only way out of 8.1 is updated to 9.3+ and downgrade or use a nus private server

The working public entry points for 8.1j are as follows

Cn - gw / ntr
Oot - gw

I'm hoping you did a nand backup with gw.

I dont use gateway lol I was just curious how you could in install something without access to cubic ninja/power saves/or browserhax if you have no browser.

So you can just pop the gateway cartridge in and it reads it? I thought a normal firmware couldnt read unsigned content?

I think we're having two different conversations.

All I am saying is without a gateway card the only useful thing you can do with native 8.1 is nand backup with the GW launcher and CN

I'm afraid not as the OP didn't use any exploit until updated it to 10.3. If recovery mode is also broken then no luck at all... but I highly suggest to give a recovery mode another try using another formatted (in FAT32) console sd card.

If by luck it does work then stay at 10.3 and don't downgrade. Wait until GW comes with their 10.3 launcher or downgrader, so that at least you can make a NAND backup first.
Is Gateway already working on this?

Thanks for the help & ideas everyone :) Nothing seemed to work though. I've used recovery mode 4 times and still doesn't boot. I'm going to see if I can get it exchanged.
I'd like to return this 3ds I tried some deep modification in system but fucked up and now it's broken please take it back and refund thx

Maybe if the first cias from updates folder wasnt for new 3ds the sysupdater modified a thing that makes recovery mode think its an old 3ds?

Hey guys today my Japanese N3DS Non XL came.
It came with firmware 8.1 so I had no entry point. I had to update to 10.3 to get the browser to work. I installed menuhax and was getting prepared to downgrade back to 9.2 with sysUpdater. Now the first 100 times I tried sysUpdater, it failed on arm11 kernel exploit step #5 or sometimes #7. I fixed this by replacing boot.3dsx with sysUpdater. I then tried to downgrade but it turns out some of my CIAs in updates were corrupt. I got a error getting CIA info and it looked like it changed nothing to my system. I then fixed the update CIAs and was preparing to downgrade. My 3ds wouldn't boot. Black screen. No message. I tried to do a firmware update in recovery mode, it just finished but had no effect. Tried booting with SD card out I thought maybe it was menuhax. Still nothing. Now I want to kill myself becuase in less than 24 hours I've broke it.

Any help is very much appreciated.
If you had used safesysupdater you could have avoided that brick.
Sorry to say it, but you're screwed. You could try to take it back and tell them it was DOA or that you tried to update it and it broke. They might give you a new one on the spot.

You just wouldn't say that.
You would say something along the lines I was playing my 3DS and I shut it off for the night the next day I turned it on and the screen stayed black I shut it off a couple times and nothing.
I tried removing the battery and putting it back in and nothing, I tried another SD card and still nothing.

They shouldn't say no.

Yeah and then they send it back to Nintendo, they see you tried to downgrade and then they come with all FBI and CIA to get you and install software on your n3ds

Doesn't matter at that point, once you get your replacement swap in store. Nintendo isn't going to do anything they aren't going to track you down or give a call to the best buy or whatever store replaced it. They are gonna either scrap 3DS and or just restore it back to functioning and then resell as a refurb.

Now if op is dealing with nintendo directly then no luck but if its a retail store they're going to give it a look see it doesn't boot and exchange it.

I really wanna hear if you manage to get it swapped. In my opinion you're not entitled to a swap, you knew the risk and took it. (That said, I'm not saying a swap wont work, in fact I'm actually rather positive it will)

No OP should not be allowed be he isn't going to tell the store the truth so chances are he will get away with a swap.
He took the risk knowing the possibility.
