you can do that if you want.

I generally find it easier to install FBI.cia while in sysnand (I prefer rxtools pasta mode but rxmode or whatever sysnand cfw might work). it will carry over to emunand if you install it before cloning sysnand to emunand. use TinyFormat for sysnand and NNID won't mess up + nothing on the SD will get deleted!

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. It's really helped to clarify the process. Just to update my plan, here's what I'm intending to do:

1. Backup SD card
2. Setup second SD card with emunand9 as boot.3dsx
3. Downgrade to 9.2
4. Reinstall hax in sysnand (thank goodness I bought a CN cart )
5. Boot hax from sysnand using emunand9 SD card
6. Use emunand9 3dsx to create emunand partition on original SD card and clone sysnand to emunand
7. Restore original SD card backup
8. Unlink nands using tiny format to preserve NNID on emunand
9. Follow the tutorial linked on Reddit to get the newest reinand running
10. Boot into emunand using reinand
11. Update emunand to 10.3
12. Install hax in emunand and boot homebrew launcher
13. Run NASA
14. Install FBI to emunand

Any glaring errors or omissions?

well, you would need to go into some kind of CFW for sysnand. the only one I know of right now is rxtools pasta mode/rxmode sysnand.

I wasn't able to install a .CIA within reinand emunand... using FBI in ninjhax

Read through the 25+ pages that were added while i slept, would anyone be able to confirm if a new build has fixed the MSET ROP as of yet or is this something on the snag list ?

One problem is people often forget to back up the Nintendo 3DS folder before format EMUNAND => No FBI on EMUNAND either. (Check out how many questions asked about why no FBI on EMUNAND while the tutorials clearly told them to back up mSD content before Create EMUNAND)

Why not make it easier now it's possible and more straight forward: back up content of SD -> Use EMUNAND9Tool and clone sysnand to create EMUNAND -> restore SD content -> run ReiNand EMUNAND -> Install Hax (browserhax) -> HBL -> Tiny Format EMUNAND -> update EMUNAND to 10.3 -> set up hax (browserhax) again -> HBL -> install FBI. cia to EMUNAND via NASA

that's why I suggest TinyFormat, because it won't delete anything in the Nintendo 3DS folder. or mess with NNID.

it runs fine for me using menuhax / ctrbootmanager

but if i try to run using the ds profile exploit i get a black screen (well not even black more like grey)

i used the old rnInstaller.nds with a flashcart and selected N3DS 4.x

so let's try and make this clear...

I tried using hblauncher_loader (which would have the same effect even if I used browserhax or Cubic Ninja) in ReiNand emunand with FBI.3dsx and was not able to install anything.

I was able to use FBI.3dsx to install things to rxtools pasta mode (sysnand). so I could then install FBI or BigBlueMenu or whatever.

I highly suggest installing in sysnand before cloning it to emunand.

hows boot rate with newest reinand firmware on ctrlbootmanager? with rxtools now i m gettig about 80%, if reinand has > 90% i ll consider swap!
