I heard a few days ago that you no longer need a flashcard in order to have CFW. But i'm a little scared to do it because iv'e heard people have been bricking.

Iv'e looked around the internet but i'm not really sure what to do. What's the best place to start? i'm considering buying a 3DS/3DS XL today just to go along side my "legit" one.

Is it easy? is bricking easy? :(

With the latest tools, if you make 100% sure you get the correct files, verify their checksum etc. it's much safer.

Hacking the 3DS (in the realms of Backup/CIA Loading) requires a 9.2 or lower 3DS for the time being.

If you have higher than that, stay where you are.

There's currently a way to downgrade your 3DS firmware to 9.2, but i's technically complex, and has a non-zero chance of bricking your system.

Just wait a little longer. there's a reasonably foolproof piece of software being developed called KernelTimeMachine (or KTM) that will allow you to downgrade to the hackable Firmware soon.

Issue with it is that if something goes wrong, and forces you to upgrade again, you're gonna be screwed (10.4). So, I wouldn't really wait until KTM comes out, since the other method is just as safe. (KTM will NOT be safer.)
