FF7 remake being released as a "Multi part series"

It's been revealed that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII remake will be released as a "multi part series" with each offering a "unique experience"

This may come as a blow to fans if this means the whole story of VII won't be available immediately. The announcement has yet to be properly clarifled.

To be fair, the game is the exact same as the original if you just choose not to use the cheat options. Why stay away from a game just because it adds a baby mode that you can easily choose to ignore completely?
Some people lack the willpower to stay away from readily-available cheats.

I dunno how to put it without sounding like a purist dick... But I guess it's because I don't want to buy into that kind of thing. I don't feel that RPGs should have that possibility (unless there are some consequences) so I don't want to support it. Then again I'm not positive that I have all the information correct and I won't discourage anybody from buying it. It's just not something I'm thrilled about.

And this. Sorry guys, I have no willpower! I'm a weak fleshy human filled with temptation. I'd probably end up using the cheat at one point out of frustration and then be upset the rest of the game for it.

I...I... Insta-heal? As in "I'm losing so I'll just heal my party with no ramifications?"

Genuinely asking. That's the kind of stuff I hated about Bravely Default. I don't think I died a single time in that game because it's so easy to turn on baby mode with no downside.

It's for people who just want to experience the story.

If you don't like it, you're not forced to use it. Just like how Bravely Default and hell, most games, have a super ridiculously easy mode for people who are more interested in the story, or experiencing the game without the frustration. Some people just aren't good at videogames, and it's not really fair to say they shouldn't be allowed to experience it without cheeseballing it or grinding excessively. Though I actually don't remember a mode like that in Bravely Default...but then again I just auto pick the hardest difficulty in most games so yeah.
Also i'm not saying all games should be like that. But singleplayer games with story? Sure why not. It doesn't affect your personal playthrough if someone else chooses a lower difficulty.

Also, on the multi-part thing - it's important to keep in mind that when this game was first created, it was one of the most expensive games to create at its time. Most importantly, it's a really long game with a lot of actual designed areas. As you probably know, development costs have increased massively over the years. You might say, "what about Fallout 4/<insert open world RPG here>, that's a long RPG too".
A. this is Square Enix we're talking about - they tend to want their games to look as good as they possibly can. Making something that looks as good as what they want is super expensive.
B. Most open world games use a technique known as "procedural generation". Those big forests, fields and whatever else? People aren't placing down every rock and tree by hand - there's algorithms that do that for you. Then you just need to tweak the final result, add cities and bam, big map. Everything in FF7 was designed and placed by hand, and they'll likely want to reproduce something like that.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, if they want to do a full remake of FF7 and do it properly (and it looks like they do), it's going to have MASSIVE development costs.

Oh what I AM okay with is difficulty levels. That's totally cool. Baby, Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Extreme, Suicidal, etc. What I'm against is turning it on and off at will in RPGs which is what seems to be the case for VII and Bravely Default. Kingdom Hearts did it pretty good where you start off in a mode and you stick there. Or maybe if you need to switch modes, at least give the badguys less experience points. At the very least give some in game (or out of game like a trophy) benefit to not turning on baby mode.

I feel like my opinion isn't the most popular and I don't want to start a discussion in this thread about it since it's unrelated to the main topic. But yeah I see your point. I see all the points related to this discussion. Hope you guys can see mine and agree to disagree.

It'll have high developement costs, sure, but you can't expect us to believe the development costs will be higher than, say, a new Final Fantasy. You know. The ones that are released in one part (maybe two, put at least in those cases the games are developed from the ground up for two parts). Also, yes, development costs are higher these days, but so is the video game market. Studios can afford to make expensive games.

Not like this thread is going anywhere anyway. Just general outraged posts and the odd (very odd) defensive post with no valid points.

You seem more concerned about e-peen than anything. Trophies and achievements are literally worthless. They mean absolutely nothing. With that in mind, it once again comes down to the fact that there's no reason anyone shouldn't be able to change difficulty at will. You seem disgruntled by the fact that someone can experience the same thing as you despite the fact they maybe turned down the difficulty in a tough spot and you didn't and toughed it out for a couple hours until you finally did it. Which kinda makes sense but then at the same time it's still a selfish way of thinking. There's no reason to punish someone for changing difficulties, because if you do then they'll never try a harder one, and thus never get better in a comfortable way.
Lack of willpower isn't much of an excuse either because you can keep that in check easier than a person can stop sucking at a game.

I get your point of view, because I used to be that kind of gamer. But I just eventually realized it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other if someone cheats or plays a lower difficulty in a singleplayer game. Emphasis on the singleplayer (because I know the internet and if I don't say it seven times someone will quote me screaming about multiplayer).

Guys, guys, I just remembered something...
If Squeenix's gonna remake the full game, do you think they'll still leave those "fantastic" moments as Cloud cross-dressing to infiltrate a brothel or the "rape" scene that can happen inside?

As the article says: "If this makes it into the HD Remake, the internet is going to explode."
i'm pretty sure they'l be cutting these sort of things out. i just can't see them leaving it in. which of course sucks because those bits may have been weird they're part of the experience.

Cross-dressing is already confirmed to be in the game. I doubt they'd take out the Honey Bee Inn scenes either.

The neogaf thread T-Hug linked a while ago. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1152062
>-they made multi-release since they would have to cut stuff out if they made it in one game. The detail of the game will be so dense, and you will be able to go to various locations within Midgar that you couldn't go before.
-The battle system is real-time, action feel. The degree of action will be "Dissidia > Kingdom Hearts> FF7 remake" It will be more tactical.
-Although it's action style, it has ATB as well.
-You can control other party members, but you can keep control one if you want
-Cloud looking sick is partly due to the lighting. Nojima likes that Cloud looks very sick.
-They are working with various companies outside, including CC2

*sigh* the more i hear the less i'm even interested.

I've never been into the arbitrary restriction of a stamina gauge and this seems no different. If I see an opening to attack, I'd like to be able to take it instead of be forced into passivity while the game tells me "no no, you can't play right now." It's like Nintendo's "you've been playing for a while, why not take a break?" only in this case you're actually forced to do so.

Wasn't the original Final Fantasy VII cut up into parts because the game was too big? So it's likely to be segmented the same way the first one was, right?

I'll just wait then until its released as a whole game like they usually do with these episodes :) I'll play the HD remaster that was released on PS4 instead or on my lappy :D

It's worse than you think.

Pressing R3 also gives everyone instant limit breaks. It refills your HP and MP, mid-battle, whenever you want it, just press R3. No limit. Baby mode if you want it, basically.

I will be using the no encounters and 3x game speed a great deal though.

It'll be 1. If we were living in a world that didn't have digital downloads, there would be a possibility of 2., but three disc would be 150GB (plus whatever day 1 patches/etc there are), if what they say about the size problem to be believed. Their plan is to release in probably 3 or 4 releases as separate games that are part of a larger story/universe (think lightning returns, etc, etc, etc I'm guessing)

The "each one has a completely separate story" thing is what confuses me, it suggest a larger reworking of the story to fit this separate release scenario.
I am not as hyped anymore.. I still want this badly, but just not so hyped. I just don't want to end up disappointed in 2 years..

I sincerely hope that's not going to happen. 3 disc was OK at the time, due to physical limitation. But doing so now would be stupid. Milking the cash cow is the only reason why this could be a thing

Oh. but it will. It will.

The game will be released as four downloads. 1 main "game" download at $60 that lets you get to the end of Midgar and three follow up DLC downloads at $49.99 each.

I'm hedging my bets on it right now.
