Nowhere have they said that they'll force each episode to be sold separately. I highly expect them to have a system similar to other episodic games. You can buy each episode individually or buy the whole game and get each episode when it comes out. I know this will sound incredibly naive, but it's entirely possible for them to release the game at a "normal" price for all episodes. If there's three episodes, and each takes about 20 hours to complete (depending on side-content and whatnot), they could sell each for $20-$25. That actually brings up the possibility for side-quests to be missable, if it's stuck to one episode...

Well, we can only hope that this will be the case. I did mention earlier how I thought that this could happen (the $20 per episode x 3 episodes), but I doubted that this would be what they plan to do based on their claim of making each part its own "unique experience", implying that they want people to see each episode as its own complete game. This way, they seem to be trying to get people to accept the idea of $40+ episodes. Besides, if they were going to make the entire experience cost the typical $60, then why release the game episodically? I guess it lets people begin playing it sooner, though with a more fractured experience, but what would they get out of doing that?

I concede that my cynicism is having an effect here, but it's entirely grown from constantly watching other big publishers try and slide shady business our way. That Square Enix could be capable of what we all suspect, I have no doubt, and right now it seems like a cash-grab is the most likely impetus behind this move.

That being said, I actually expect SE to change their intended approach after the negative press they must be getting, likely making each episode $25, if not concatenating the parts altogether. Even still, a $25 price tag per episode gives a $75 total. That's still enough to keep me away from the game, that is, if it does go that way.

we hardly know any more info and if we get enough content in each episode and they're reasonably priced it's not gonna matter in the slightest, jfc it's kinda embarrassing how pissed off some of you are pretending to be over this, if you don't like this game in episodic chunks then just... wait

they're already promising new content geeeeze

(best case scenario is that it's only divided into 3 acts like the 3 discs in the original but that's just me)

One book series of 4 books in English was released as 12 individual full price books here in Sweden. That was crummy.

i kinda don't mind it in movies either, like Deathly Hallows which was a long-ass book so the story needed room to breath but Mockingjay on the other hand did not need to be 2 movies, though i heard The Stand remake is getting made into 4 parts and i wouldn't argue with that cause that book was DENSE

episodic content is just becoming more common in all media tbqh, which is why i have such immense apathy for this concern, if it's done right then who cares really? it's way too early to pass judgement on this

Just gonna echo other people on this. If they break up the main story into sections and release it seperately then im not buying any of it. They are pushing the boat out further and further and testing what customers will put up with. If the full game is not there on release date (even if it takes 2-3 years to come out) then im not buying it. I refuse to buy an unfinished game and so should everyone else.

That's a major bummer. Seems like a business move though, to cash out max on this much sought franchise.

At least let's hope they don't pull a Telltale on this. I seriously believe it won't work with FF7.

how is that the same thing? at all? DLC is made after the game is finished. (not that i'm a fan of DLC in general, but skyrim's DLC is fine, its more like expansion packs.) compared to this which is only making a part of a game and then selling it already.

There was a person that once proposed a drinking game for "take a shot for every launch bug found in [insert bethesda game here]." The immediate response was a picture of an ambulance, because most people taking up that game would flat out die, with what Bethesda lets through. Either their QA is basically stone-faced drunk during testing, or basically a lot of "executive decisions(tm)" were involved to shove a game through to release, at any cost to capitalize on the invariable hype.

Final fantasy 7 is a long game for ps1 yeah but not ott long
and to compare to the discs for ps1 i dont think each 1 is valid for a full experience

Square are nuts to mention something like this then not to back it up with info is stupidity because they should know how people will react
because if they'd backed it up by saying more info then it may not be as bad

for example does this mean that we'll see something sooner
it would have to be extended quite a bit or is each ep going to be 10 hours or less
another concern is will the eps be digital only or retail aswell or retail once its complete

also isnt ffxv meant to be a long game? hmmm....

i think we should realize just how hard it is to make a big epic JRPG these days with as much high-fidelity as they've got planned, do you remember how much they had to cut out of FF13? allegedly a whole game's worth of content simply because they ran out of time and/or money that they had to save for FF13-2 and Lightning's Return, and considering that they're promising to add new content and elements to the story it's easier to understand why they're doing this

FF7's story and it's side quests always kinda felt sort of episodic anyway so there's hoping that each episode has at least 40+ hours of content

This is what happens when you focus on style over substance. We all demand better and better graphics, which not only makes development times totally bloody ridiculous but also let shit like this fly. I'm hyped for the remake, but frankly with this announcement I'll probably just wait for the inevitable 'box set' with all the episodes together, and I can't be the only one who thinks this way. So in their efforts to get the game to us quicker, they've kind of shot themselves in the nuts. I don't pay you full retail price for a bit of a game, Square Enix. If you need to put this on multiple discs, go ahead. We'd rather wait for a complete product than get bent over a barrrel for the sake of pleasing some corporate whore who doesn't care for artistic integrity or customer satisfaction sonlong as they can buy another helicopter and laugh at us from on high like a stoned deity. Don't try to screw us over. You're on thin ice already.
