I know this thread is a little older, but I get to o3ds users/with browser/step#9 and homebrew browser keeps freezing when I try to click start FBI from the homebrew launcher. I've formatted the sd card, reformatted the 3ds and went through the steps from that point forward. I've also mixed up what SD cards I have used (2,16 and 64 gb) any idea?

Try an older version of FBI, I've heard of issues with the newest version multiple times. If that doesn't work then try FBI injection with Decrypt9 which should work

EDIT: this guide needs a bit of love but I haven't actually had a working 3ds in awhile (its fixed finally, thank god) so I'll update this when I have time, though it should still be relevant enough to work fine, just not in the easiest / least amount of steps

Can I rename FBI to boot.3dsx and just launch directly into it? I was able to run it via cubic ninja 1.0 but it doesn't have the proper permissions... I'm on 9.0.0.20 or w/e it is lol.

Thanks~

Should have the proper permission... try Ninjhax 2.5 though just to see if it'll work there, maybe there's something in the versions of late that makes it work only there... though I doubt it, you're sure that you're launching CFW then trying to install the CIA you want? That is a requirement and I do believe that I've said it in the guide...

I launched into hbl via cubic ninja, scrolled into the directory of fbi and clicked the button to "install all cia's in current directory", it said it was a success. I have no idea if it did what it was supposed to do, but I will have to go back later and try what you just told me to do. Btw, could I click the install fbi over health and safety app in rxtools? I saw that under other options.

you could do that, yes. however your only choice is a really outdated version of FBI... The decrypt9 version can work with any application, though it's your choice

Figured I'd post this here for you to add to your guide since the lack of this information in any top post is causing lots of skeptics in various discussions ;)
Ninjhax2.5 supports browser-less systems. So you could update straight to 9.2.0-0U/E and inject FBI/run cfw and sysupdater.
Had fun making a few videos last night in this thread: http://gbatemp.net/threads/o3ds-fw-3-0-0-0e.405320/page-2
Pingouin7 even deleted his browser on 10.3 just to test and successfully launched hbl.

Yeah I saw that and I must say that's pretty neat... the biggest problem with it though is *hax 2.x all run on 9.0 or above... so it's only really useful to people on 9.0-9.2 without a browser or downgraded MSET, though I can certainly see how it could be useful in that situation.... currently this guide is a bit outdated but will still work, just isn't the easiest or smallest amount of steps to the end goal, I'll get around to finally updating it someday... Anyways thanks for your video I'm sure that will help lots of people :) also sorry you had to deal with that one guy telling you you were a troll (he obviously didn't have any clue what he was talking about)

After checking out multiple guides to set up my 9.0 N3DS that will arrive this week, I found this to be the most convenient and straightforward one. Hope it'll work out.

Nice guide!!!!

I don't understand this:

  • Put the SD card into your computer, you'll notice a folder called Nintendo 3DS, inside it will be a folder with a bunch of random letters and numbers and inside that one there will be another folder with random numbers and letters, inside of it create a folder called dbs, then move the import.db and title.dbfiles from dbs.zip into the dbs folder.

Where am I supposed to put the files, exactly? :)

That part is to help you so you will be able to install cias later, otherwise you will get an error. What files are you talking about?

It's going to look a bit like that.

3ds/eieifjndieieieieiei46467/734343737343/dbs

I don't know the exact format of nand folder names, but you'll get it once you see it.

There you put it.

Those guys explained it pretty well... I can't provide a 100% accurate file path for you because it differs for everyone and differs even between system formats... Basically inside the Nintendo 3ds folder you'll find a folder with random numbers and letters for the name, open that and you'll find another folder that also has random numbers and letters for the name, inside there you'll find the dbs folder... If you're on o3ds (there seems to be issues with the latest on n3ds) you can skip this step if you use the latest FBI as it automatically creates these now
