No. The savedata is directly in the SD card and you don't need to do anything special to transfer it to a .cia or something like that. If you play with your cartridge or with a .cia the savegame will be the same.

You sure about that? I'm not particularly far but I still would rather not lose my save if I didn't have to. Not having to back up the save between .cia updates would be a lot more convenient, though.

NTR should work, but as it has been said, you can't go online if you're in NTR. Just install de .cia. As I said before you can use the same savegame normally.

Edit: isn't this message supposed to merge automatically? oh well

jeez people, stop writing baseless shit. We just tested going online from 9.2 sysNAND into 9.5 GW emuNAND -> BootNTR -> NTR 3.1/layeredfs and it worked.

Also no you don't have to backup your savegame or whatever each time you install. maybe do a backup copy just in case, but in general there should be no problems.

The preferred way is still a one time retail cartridge or cia installation + NTR plugin, convenient because updating the patch consists of a replacing a <10MB folder, and done.

Where exactly is that save ? The only thing I see in SDF that seems to be MHX related is a broken 01554 in User and a 00001554 in Ext, but the latter only contains "system" and "system_backup". MH4U had "userX" files...

Yeah I had the same thing. I backed up the ext files just in case and deleted the .cia for science. It's importing right now.

Also what I'm doing has nothing to do with save file editing or cheating or anything like that. Just trying to prevent data loss while updating to a newly translated version of the game. I'm sure this will interest a lot of people here.

Well alright it's done importing; I didn't use sdf before starting the game and my save file is there. Good stuff.

I see. I'd like that method for the convenience then but it is something I am not familiar with, so if there are instructions that describes the procedures, then I probably can work on it. :)
I will have to look into NTR first.

Could we please not have a discussion about cheating/savegame hacking in this tread. thanks.
I was not talking about cheating/hacking savegames, just about "what was the savegame exactly, surprised it's not the same as MH4U's savegame" so I can make backups of it when updating the translation patch (when it's out) and transfer my savegame to the europe version of MHX (when it's out (if ever)).

If I remember correctly, people weren't able to transfer save games from the JAP MH4G to the EU/USA MH4U.

Nah, you can do it with NTR's save plugin or putting the .sav in the correct SDF folder. Using NTR back and forth with the same sav game does bork it up a little tho.

It would be great when you're done with the translation that you're make your files official. So I can create a patched CIA of my game.

I was just thinking it would be great if Traiver had this patch to release a patched CIA. You're a trusted source! You and Dasding are awesome.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
