Hello, new user here, but longtime lurker.

I am new to the 3DS homebrew scene, but I've been hacking consoles since my PSX back in the day. I want to play Pokémon on a 3DS and be able to access Japanese Pokémon events. So far my search on the internet and other forums has produced conflicting answers.

I can probably do this with a Japanese Pokémon game on a Japanese 3DS connected to a spoofed Japanese proxy. Fiddling with region settings and spoofed proxies is how I purchase Japanese manga on my NA Kindle, but Pokémon is different. You don't play it through a stupid web browser. Can I use homebrew to trick my NA 3DS to let me access Japanese servers for Japanese game events? If you know of a tutorial that's out there already please point me to it. Thx.

There is a way of getting them into your game, but not from the mystery gift server! What you'll need to do is get SVDT to backup your pokemon save file, and PKHeX to edit that save file. If you look in the Project Pokemon forums they will have the wondercard data of every pokemon event that you'll be able to inject into your save file!

EditL However if you do have a Japanese 3DS and a Japanese copy of the game, then yes you can get it from servers but only if its a wifi event and not an instore one! No need for a proxy as the 3DS console only accesses eshop/game servers from its home region! Not counting video streaming from the anime app that one is still locked by your ip!

Theoretically you could use HANS to change the region to JAP (this works for getting the Steelix from the demo, even with the language set to something else). Only problem with that is that currently, HANS does not use update data, so you would not be able to connect.

So hacking won't let me trick their servers? That's too bad. These event Pokémon will eventually show up on Powersaves as well. I could always inject them into my game without the hex editing that way. I guess I just want the thrill of doing it live.

Yeah, the update data is the trick, isn't it? It's one way that Nintendo prevents people from doing what I want to do. So using the Japanese game/3DS with a spoofed Japanese proxy might be the only way to do this. Unless somebody's heard otherwise? I'd like to not waste $120 on a J-N3DS that can't connect to Nintendo's servers.

Pokemon from Powersave codes are tagged with junk data, but if you inject the wondercard directly into the save file then you'll be receiving it from the delivery lady as if it were a legitimate event! And by the ingame data they will be!

Oh! That's different then. Worth looking into. Thanks!

So all I need to do is pony up the money, and I won't have to fiddle with proxies? That's fantastic news. I may go for that option if the hacking option doesn't float my boat.

I'm very picky about how my events are applied to my game, sure there's loads of way of hacking in a Pokemon... but there's a real art to getting them in such a way that they're indistinguishable from if you went to the event yourself! The People at Project Pokemon are the only people with unedited legitimate pokemon & wondercard files!
