May i ask what is translated? I was able able to patch the game but all the menus and options are in Japanese, only a few words here and there were translated. Is it suppose to be like this or i did something wrong? Thank you.

It's an items patch. It translates items, skills, quests ect.

What was the problem with xdelta? I'd try it if you made an xdelta patch.

Anyway, to proceed we need a font hack. Can you screenshot for me the text window for getting the Goddess' Temple Key from the chest? Even if we could change the text, the whole game would look like that, and that looks terrible. I don't know how to change fonts, sorry. I might be able to find where story text is stored.

You also gotta figure out where menu button text is stored.

OK I'm on it. I'll get the key shot. I'm sure it's just me, that's why I couldn't get xdelta to work. I'll keep trying.

Is the menu buttons etc in folder yamanaka, then, Sysmenu?

So is the story script stored in the .cpk file? And then the first file starts at EV00_100 and ends at EV07_3000?

So the problem I was having with xdelta was that I just downloaded the wrong one. I will use it from now on. Let me know of of you want me to re release the patch with it.

So, how playable is this with the patch but without knowing Japanese? I actually really enjoyed the first game in the series so I'd import this if you can play through it with the patch. Any problems with knowing where to go or is everything clear? Also, thanks for making the patch. Really awesome that there are people who sacrifice their own time to selflessly make something playable for many others.

It's a pretty standard dungeon crawler like the first so you shouldn't have to much trouble. Just the usual check every corner of the maps and you should be fine. Enjoy!

Awesome. I should have my copy within the next couple of weeks. Just to be clear, the patch is intended to be an items/skills/quests/etc. patch and will not be worked upon further? Not to sound ungrateful, I just want to make sure that I get the best possible experience when I play it and that I shouldn't wait for something that won't come. Again, thank you for working hard and making the patch. Seriously awesome that I will finally be able to play this.

There's plenty more to do on this but it's beyond my ability.
But we do need to do some EBOOT work, I think (I think I can handle this).

We need to search through the EBOOT for strings.
Then, we can get them translated and inserted.

We need to search through the EBOOT for strings.
Does anyone have a generic plaintext searcher program they like?
I looked through the EBOOT and it has many strings stored in plain UTF-8 text.

Still no luck on the menu options though. I've no idea where those are stored.
It appears that the menu options are text-based (no graphics).

I don't mind lending a hand with the eboot. Want me to take a look at it?

Edit: That was pretty easy to find. Left some hints if you wanna do this yourself. It apparently supports single width Latin characters which is a plus when working with UTF-8.

Sorry to say, but that's the UTF-8 standard. Straight ASCII will work for any application that uses UTF-8. Now, having those ASCII characters defined in the font is another matter entirely. But this game includes those characters in its font, so all is good. SHIFT-JIS is the same way. The one that's not that way (that you sometimes see) is UTF-16.
