I can confirm the above issue with Pier Solar using Picodrive. Genesis Plus GX works fine though.

I'm trying to play Metal Slug with the NeoGeo emulator.
When I load the NeoGeo bios I get the error message:
  • cannot push NULL or empty core into the playlist.
And when I load Metal Slug I get:
  • [FBA] ROM index 2 was not found ... CRC 0x72813676
  • Failed to load content.
  • Does not have enough samples for monitor refresh rate estimation. Requires to run for at least 4096 frames.
I haven't messed with the settings yet and I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

@Tommyco13 Your Metal Slug ROM must be royally old. MAME ROMsets (and FBA ROMsets since they're kept relatively synced with MAME) are routinely updated as missing ROMs are added, bad dumps are corrected, etc. From what I can tell Metal Slug hasn't been updated in 11 years, but regardless of when exactly it happened, it's been updated since your ROMset was packed.

Basically, find a better/more recent source for ROMs.

I've just done some more Neo Geo testing. Only a small handful of the more mainstream games because I'm not really much of an SNK gamer.

King of Fighters 95 - Works 31.2MB Uncompressed
King of Fighters 96 - Works 45.2MB Uncompressed
Metal Slug - Works 26.2MB Uncompressed
Metal Slug 2 - Works 43.2MB Uncompressed

King of Fighters 97 - Not Working 57.2MB Uncompressed

Take note of the file sizes. It would be good to narrow it down a bit more, though I suppose it might be academic for New 3DS users once we figure out how to access the extra RAM and/or *hax 2.5 is released.

Curiously I can't get the Metal Slug 2 hack by Trap15 working that fixes the slowdown despite only being an extra 300Kb or so. Presumably this is a genuine incompatibility rather than being related to the fixe size.

Some GBA tests: (10/3 build, 03ds 10.1 on emunand, cia)
Metroid Zero Mission: 33fps or so during actual gameplay.
Megaman Zero 2: Around 50-60fps during gameplay. Intro crawls due to framebuffer effect.
Aria of Sorrow: 40-50fps, stuttery and unpleasant

Hi man,

What emulator are you using and what kind of roms? I would love to test Neo Geo games.

FBA Neo-Geo core.
He's just using the latest ROMset for FBA.

Also I found out why PCE freaks out with my config:
N3DS's L2 is mapped to switching between 2-Button and 6-Button mode.
Sadly, PCE doesn't have Core Remap options, so... it's a bit of a problem with my extra shoulder buttons mapped globally to Savestate/Loadstate.

So on the latest release, if you press the screen to turn off the bottom screen on a 2DS, the whole screen goes dark. I knew this would happen lol. The builds up to 01/10 are OK though.

PSX Doom (29Sep build) get
48-55 fps (fs 1, Audio on)
32-50 fps (fs 0, Audio on)
45-55 fps (fs 0, Audio off)
50-59 fps (fs 1, Audio off)
Devs, please, leave the software renderer option in future releases! Some games, e.g. Doom(obvious) can render correctly only that way.
And thank you for your work! Don't need to buy another portable to play favorite PlayStation games anymore.
(psp is not an answer. Dat 2 shoulder buttons ruins the experience)

I was waiting for a confirmation, I'll make it skip turning off the LCD for 2DS.

Thanks. I did open an issue just in case on the issue tracker.

-----------

Anyway, I did some tests with gPSP using the latest build 03/10. 9.2 O3DS (2DS to be specific) using .cia. Audio Sync is ON at all times.

Metroid Fusion: Fullspeed for the most part. Floats anywhere between 30 - 90fps during intro, 65 - 85 fps max during gameplay, slow downs to 40-45fps when you're in the dark and there's a spotlight around you. Layer effects and all. (Didn't bother with Zero Misison, I doubt that's fullspeed)

Super Mario Advance: Fullspeed. 65fps max without frame limiter on. Slowdowns on character selection menu, goes down to about 50fps.

Castlevania: Circle of The Moon: Fullspeed!! Again some slowdowns during the main menus, to about 50fs. Getting an amazing 75 - 85 fps without frame limiting on!!

Wario Land 4: Fullspeed. Amazing! 76fps max.

Zelda Minish Cap: Fullspeed. 90fps max, but that's inside houses. Overworld goes at 60 - 70fps, Slowdown on main menu but that's it. I didn't get to the more demanding parts of the game though, like the barrel rolling and stuff, but this is great. 60 - 65 fps when there's lots of sprites on screen.

Mario & Luigi SuperStar Saga: Fullspeed up to where I tested. Battles are at 66fps max. Some parts of the intro are slow though but that's usual.

Pokemon Sapphire: Fullspeed. That's all. Runs at 70 - 80fps without frame limiter on. Didn't expect any less, the game's not that demanding.

Mario Kart Super Circuit: 37 - 45 fps during races, slow.

Densetsu no Stafy 2: 30fps, slow as hell. Too many effects I guess.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow: Mostly fullspeed, but game dips down to 50fps when you're in any room that has lots of effects on the background. So quite often.

In conclusion, goddamn, this is great. Lots of games are fullspeed on an O3DS... Really amazing. Seems like every game that doesn't abuse layer effects or sprite scaling is running great. I'm VERY optimistic about this. I wonder if GPU rendering would help with said effects, I'm confident this can get to fullspeed on everything on the O3DS now. I can already enjoy many games like this. So thanks a lot! I'm going to try Picodrive now, as from what I tested, Sonic 1 is fullspeed at all times.

Tests with Picrodrive on O3DS 9.2 with .cia

Monster World IV: Pleasantly fullspeed, up to 72fps. One of my top 5 favorite games of all time running great, that makes me happy :). Time to delete the injected .cia lol
Sonic 1: As mentioned before, fullspeed at all times finally. 65fps max. Even on bonus stages.
Sonic 3D Blast: Fullspeed as well. 67fps max.
Beyond Oasis: Fullspeed too, 75fps max!
Castlevania Bloodlines: 60 - 65fps mostly. Only tried out the first stage though. When there's stuff on the background it dips to 56 - 59

Ristar: Dips down to 50 - 55fps. Almost there.

This is simply awesome :P

Probably not very well as that can't use dynarec, I think? Or maybe it can if you're under 9.2? Assuming you're above that, I dunno. But there's some tests up there from doctorgoat if you want to check it out.

Man a last question, ¿what´s the difference between (genesis plus gx) and (picodrive) ???

That'S weird :/
Hopefully there will be a way to play it on Picodrive sometime.

Btw. the newest Build of PCSX_ReARMed crashes on loading Game... everytime.
Have to use a older build.

Same for me, PCSX_ReARMed always crashes this screen
