i guess 5.4.0 users might get something soon then, might be bad if this was the exploit for 5.4.0+ that was being kept under-wraps to maintain future compatibility though

good...news...?

A publicly released vulnerability for the Wii U on 5.5 is good news for anyone in the 5.4 purgatory. It means that the development time for building an exploit is ramped up as there is already sample code to work with. Granted a new ROP chain has to be developed

Because 5.4.0 has a kexploit that 5.5.0 doesn't have?

It looks like this is just a userland exploit in N3DS, not sure for WiiU but I imagine the same. So now, 5.4 has userland/kernel just like 5.3.2, but 5.5 only has userland if my assumptions are correct. Anyone with dev experience care to chime in?

I have no clue what happens in the WiiU scene. I'm interested in wiiu hacking if we can have some emulation or injection:
N64?
PS1?
Gamecube?

Piracy for WiiU games is absolutely NOT worth it imo. There are only around 5 wiiu titles I care about. I rather buy them.

I'm also wondering what has been going on in the Wii U scene. I have the latest version 5.5 and know it's currently not exploitable, is there any clues if there is something coming for this FW or will it be an eternal wait (ala gateway). I have indeed bought all my wii u games up to this point, and I have all games I want from the system I have like 6 wii U games and a few VC titles Kek.

tbh this only really stands to change the outlook for 5.4 users, but even then there isnt even a PoC, so this exploit will have to be worked on to get it running on the wiiu, 5.5 users there is hope, but way down the line, imho there is little reason to burn exploits to cover the people who rushed to update to the latest FW because they will do the same as soon as the next one is out anyway, so while the majority of 5.5 users care more about being up to date the devs holding the exploit back care more about keeping a way into the system for as long as possible and not just burning it for the sake of a few people getting a few cheats then rushing onto the next update that blocks it anyway

Its great news the exploit for FW5.5.0 users but an exploit without anything else really good going for it, is quite useless! probably a lot of apps like cafiine and pygecko will eventually get ported over but it seems most of the really good stuff is aimed at FW 5.3.2 now with a spoofer! so it seems.

Edit: I wouldn't chance it and update to FW5.5.0 because of the new exploit, just because its on the latest FW cause that wont last for long.

well nope this exploit is just an entrypoint, yeah it may work on 5.5 but without a kernel exploit its very limited, no cafiine/pygecko etc, for 5.4 users the current tools like pygecko and cafiine should be ported over pretty quickly if/when this browser exploit is made compatible with the WiiU, and if/when the 5.5+ kernel exploit is released the same applies there, but there is no indication that this would make the devs with the 5.5 kernel exploit want to release it as right now it serves the community better being kept private and unpatched for as long as possible

yeah that's what I mean, its quite limited from the get go! I don't think really it would make much sense to start working on really active projects on FW5.5.0 because it will get updated asap and that will be the end of that, back to the same old story again so they might as well stick with what they have on FW5.3.2 with the bonus spoofer that can spoof to any updated FW that is put out, win win situation on 5.3.2!.

well if anything it will at least bring 5.4 compatibility which is a good thing, shame everyone applied that spoof which will mean updating to 5.4 from 5.3.2 will be a challenge......but for the most part it doesn't really matter unless you really really wanted that MM manual
