I want to learn Japanese as well, and I wanted Grandia for the Saturn to be my first game, but there's Kanji ALL over the damn place and it scares the shit out of me! I know you preferred games that aren't in the NA, but I heard Animal Crossing is a good option for those wanting to learn Japanese.

I believe the Dragon Quest games all have furigana over the kanji, since it's popular among young children as well. That'd give you a reason to pick up 7, or the newly released 8. Unfortunately, I think of others at the moment.

A lot of games from publishers Happinet (all their 3ds games, so far had furigana) Furyu, Nippon Columbia, Rocket Company, Alchemist, Level5 games have furigana. Most games with furigana are fashion games like wagama girls mode (style savvy), aikatsu, himegal etc., tgc games, mondter strike, some rpg games like zelda, smt, pokemon, medarot, digimon (idk about latest 1 nr. 9 still trying to find out whether it has them ir not), simulation games like tomodachi life also have kana/furigana.

I'm also trying to learn Japanese, so I was looking into this. but gamelist so long if I post all names so I put dome publishers I saw vids etc. of that had furigana. Hope this helps a bit. Also I think the upcoming MH stories will have furigana.

Some of the Kunio Kun games stick to kana only because they are retro 8-bit throwbacks and rely on recycling as many assets from the Famicom versions as possible.

You know, the games the rest of the world knows as River City Ransom, Renegade and their dozens of sport-oriented spinoffs?

IIRC Shin Megami Tensei IV has furigana, but that one's available in English officially.

I started Digimon World re:digitize Decode a few days ago thanks to a CIA. (yes, I wanted to test it before purchasing it for the light price of... 80euros)

The game is a nice Virtual Pet simulator / RPG mix with an acceptable scenario (making it more interesting than its PSX counterpart). I do not talk nor read japanese but I am able to understand what is going on and the general sense of most of the dialogues by reading them: they are all written in hiragana (except for the few english words in katakana) with a kanji here or there (of course, those very few words have furigana).

Not a 3DS game, but for learning Japanese you can't beat the two DS Zelda games. For all kanji you can tap it and furigana appears above it.

What makes this so good is that you don't see the furigana unless you need it, so it's automatically at your level.

Marvel's Avengers: Disk Wars has furigana for ALL Kanji, makingit a double-whammy for giving you lots of practice reading kana-ized loanwords with all the superhero and supervillain names.

Too bad it's a game aimed at young kids and therefore is extremely easy.

Yes. I recall hearing somewhere that Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks have this option.
