That's one benefit of RAM hacking, you should be able to inject a previous RAM file.
Hoping the original RAM file is not corrupted.

Did you even read the first post? Your firmware is compatible with the homebrew method.

I followed the new instructions exactly to 'dump' my ACNL save file. It worked, but when I then tried to open my acnlram.bin with the Save Editor, it said 'Invalid Ram File'....

Did you delete the old acnlram.bin file in your SD card?

Anyway this can be used to swap the mayor position?

I think that should be possible, I mean if you just literally c+p Player 2's entire data into the P1 slot. It wouldn't "swap" the mayors only make your mayor essentially your 2nd character via having the same name, look, inventory, face etc.

Use an hex editor and truncate from 0x07ffff the file. Make sure it becomes a 524288 bytes file.

It means the savegame header in RAM could not be found. That's weird if you've been injecting until now with no problems. I guess I know the answer but... did you inject with the game on?

I injected it after I had just created a new town (before the game actually had a save-ram)

I just had to get up to the point where I could save and then I was allowed to inject

home brew method tested on 10.0.0-27U (NA new 3DS XL) verified working

(granted I've only been able to edit my town once because of awful internet so I can't access yt/hb)

I edited my acre layout, removed pwps, moved buildings/villagers, removed trees/weeds/shells/rocks, watered flowers

The ram method isn't even suppose to work on anything but 9.0 to 9.5.0-22, so she was lucky it did work on her 8.x 3ds. Update to 9.2 and it should work again.

She's using the latest bookmarks but everytime she dumps her file with the browser, nothing appears on her sd card.

you seem to already have found a solution, but has your friend tried remaking the bookmarks? i have a 3ds at 8.0.0-18 and it's pretty finicky with ram dumping and i remember when making my bookmarks i had to try about 5 times before it worked, so it could be same for your friend.

Has anyone lost their town because the data theyre trying to inject was "not the same as the data last saved"?
have you gotten it back successfully?

something went wrong somewhere and i no longer have the data for my digital copy (which i was also able to hack successfully)
when i started up my game, it told me it "cannot use the data as it was not the data last saved"
i tried injecting it twice more (and i verified that the data i was injecting was the data i'd meant to inject)

now, i'd deleted the data and i'm trying to see if i can save my old town over the bs town i'm creating.
