Hey guys,

I've given myself far too much trouble to tread through in the last week. After trying over and over with no avail to install a working rxTools and FBI, I've discovered that the only real problem was my choice of SD card.

I've been using a generic MicroSD HC 32gb that I bought off e-bay a good while back. While transferring over an emunand and a bunch of installed games worked fine, installing games did NOT work. So, I'm looking for a new card to buy and encountered this:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-128GB-EV...Memory-Card-/171883376005?hash=item28050c2d85

This is a pretty low price for such high capacity. Would this card work or is it a certain type that I should avoid? Are there any reliable brands that are known best for 3ds CIA installs? Anything else I should know? Thanks!

when this happens, most likely its a fake\counterfeit card.. if its too good to be true, very likely it is...

people had been recomending scandisk or samsung ones..
but any good brand should work..
just dont get a generic cheap brand or a counterfeit\fake one

Those are fake cards. At best they failed quality controls, which is likely what happened with your generic card. Just buy legit retail cards and you shouldn't have any issues.

Adding to what migles and goober said, Sandisk is probably the best brand available. Kingston is good as well. I wouldn't waste my money on something being mass-sold at 1/8 of its retail value, that is far too good to be true.

Samsung Evo/Pro cards are also very good and you can often find them at a low price, check what's cheaper of SanDisk and Samsung and go with that one.
Don't buy it from eBay. Don't buy from China. Buy from Amazon if you want, they tend to have low prices, but ONLY buy from Amazon themselves, not 3rd party sellers. From china you're pretty much guaranteed a fake, with 3rd party sellers or eBay it's hit and miss.

If you're going to buy from some other website, make sure it's a well-known one, not some flashcart seller or otherwise sketchy online store. Physical stores are fine.

It only takes one to scroll back through the pages of threads on gbatemp to expose the plethora of problems documented with purchasing generic/ebay/chinese/no brand/whatever SD cards.

Why anyone would settle for anything less than SanDisk, i will never know. Yeah, they cost a lot BUT if you buy quality the first time, you will save money and headaches in the long run. My 128gb has been going strong for years now.

Kiddies, be on your best behavior so santa claus brings you a Sandisk, or save up your pocket money from mummy and daddy!

I got 2 of mine here, it works fine and I've had no problems i ordered the 8gb and 32gb. The other sizes might have issues i'm unaware of but from the 15000+ reviews at 98.7% positive it doesn't seem to.

They're a Chinese seller but they ship from China, UK & US so it's pretty fast shipping. It's $11.99 for a 32gb class 10 shipped from the US with delivery to canada estimated at 5-15 days and $66.99 for the 128gb which makes me think it's probably genuine.

To OP, check out the picture of the back of the package in my attachment (I copied then circled it. It's 100% the same as in the Ebay link).

"SDHC" "128GB"

Sorry dude. That's was not good deal considered shipped from China.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Adapt...&qid=1438991882&sr=1-1&keywords=sandisk+ultra

Sandisk, $24.99 for 64GB or $59.99 for 128GB, seller is Amazon, 80MB/s read speed (2x speed of your card), only released 9 days ago, 10-year warranty in the US (or maybe where you buy it from?!). 5-10 days free shipping for $35+ order; or if you can do some legwork, price-match at Best Buy, Walmart...

Btw, isn't this thread supposed to belong to "Hardware" section?

Considering I paid €18.50 for the 8gb and 32gb together, it shipped from the UK via Royal Mail and delivered within 1 week I still consider it a good enough deal. I didn't need anything bigger than 32gb so buying a 64gb would be a waste of money, also I've never really thought the speed of it was lacking, it can do everything I need it for therefor I'm happy.
