The thing is pretty overpriced, I can't imagine ever buying a second, or even a 3rd one. You're better off searching for an exploitable console and installing a CFW, I mean... I like free stuff as much as the next guy, but where do you draw the line?

Your right it is over priced but remember the DSi days when a new update came out and you updated you had to buy a new flashcart. But at least they were $20 for a R4i

I have to ask even though I really don't want to post here anymore but is there a 100% confirmation that there is new AP on new games? Sky needs headers for games to work so do these games work on gateway since it doesn't need headers? Can they be dumped anyway using hardware method or gateway method? Can you convert the new games to CIA to be installed on the homemenu? I think people jumped the gun here a little people need to calm down if anything this is even more of a indication that nintendo can't block Sky3ds now there changing the gamecarts there getting desperate. So yeah you can't play a few games right now that doesn't mean "SKY IS DONE FOR" because you still have hundreds of games to play on the newest firmware.

All youve asked has been answered in the posts above. The AP measure was introduced in 9.6 and its a game card - system software kind of encryption. Sky relies on the old protocol to emulate but since 9.6 a new protocol is introduced which effectively blocks newer games to be emulated via Sky. GW and all the other CFWs can effectively remove these patches since they have kernel access - something Sky can and will never obtain, well at least on their own. You can dump your games all day every day but they will not work with Sky because of the mentioned new protocol, and no - you cant install unsigned .cia files on your sysnand, thats just silly. And nobody "jumped the gun" here dont worry, Sky is done regarding new games. When a new kernel exploit is discovered then and only then will you see a new Sky card - and yes thats another $90. Two games might not seem much now but there will be many more including Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem If and ogd knows how much AAA titles.

I definitely don't know much... but this complaining is just nuts. I don't like buying a new card any more than the next person, who the heck would want to do that. But any way I look at it...

$90.00 (what I paid for my Sky3DS)
650 Games (approximately, as of June 2015) that works on the sky3DS

Lets assume you're using it to backup and play your own games and keep the originals safe and in mint condition when you want to sell them... Priceless really... And you can carry as many of your legal backups as you want... and the few games with AP protection.... well... you're using your Sky for BACKUPS, right? So you have the original of that game anyway.... Non-issue in the short term.

Now, lets assume you are downloading and playing your 3DS games on the Sky 3DS. My quick calculation... and I'm no math whiz....

$90.00 divided by 650 potential games you can load and store from your CURRENT Sky3DS card = $0.1385 per game...

13 CENTS per game... Let that sink in....

How the heck does that make the Sky3DS a waste of money???

13 cents....

Even if I had to buy another Sky3DS for the NEXT 650 games that it would be able to play... I would go out and spend that $90.00 in a second if I could run another 650 games on some new version... Hell, even if I could run just 100 games on another card... that's STILL means only a cost of $0.90 PER GAME...

And the funny thing is, I'm not even a sky3DS fan... I WISH I could use the gateway OR CFW... but I can't, so I use the Sky3DS and it does what I need it to do. If the Gateway every supports 9.9, I'll buy one of those - because I would love the extra features, but my Sky won't be going anywhere, because it will STILL be able to run 650 games !

Well it just seems to me that everyone wants sky to die a horrible death. I didn't think it was that bad when I owned one and no I didn't mean install cia on sysnand I was talking about emunand with gateway.

Sure, "backups". And how again are you making these "backups" on >9.2? :gba:

Youve got it all wrong, Sky is definitely worth the money but not any more since it cant play any new games.

$120-180 for a GBA flash cart was expensive.

You mean no one?
Ya you can't use that excuse anymore now that you can download the games from the eShop.

Reminds me the old days of the DS "oh ya, I'm just using a flashcart so I won't have to carry all my games" lol.

Is this a troll? No real gamer "collects" digital console games, especially Nintendo. Nintendo 1st party titles always hold their value. And yes, I am using it for legitimate backups of my own games. I've posted my entire 3DS game collection before.

And yet neither of these games work on the latest firmware even with the latest template, I mean what are the chances that from all the loist of 700 games the last two dont seem to work. Makes you think right?

I definitely didn't intend to debate whether piracy is good or bad... I was just using those numbers (and examples) to give an example of costs based on 2 different types of users and 2 different uses for the card.

Yeah like you never "stole" anything just being a member of this site means you pirated something. And don't give me that "keep my legal games safe" crap what are you going to do with a gamecart scratch it. Please save the bullshit
Do I have a Sky? No.
I mod games, I cheat and I like to defeat security systems. I don't use CFWs for the silly argument to have all my games on the same place.
Please speak about what you know.

YES! The FlashAdvance 256M at $179.00 WAS Expensive... $90.00 is pretty darn decent. I think we've all just been spoiled to some degree by the $20.00 (or less) people expect to pay for R4 clones.
I think this was a little before my time, I didn't know they had such things for the GBA. I remember there being an Action Replay and Codebreaker back in the day, but I had no idea the GBA had flash cards as well

They did.. and they were great too. Though limited by the built in ram. But GBA games were pretty small. Things got a lot less pricey when cards like the Supercard SD and EZ Flash iV came out. I don't think you can buy FlashAdvance cards any more, but the EZ Flash iv and supercard are still both available from place like http://www.ps2cover.com/categories/Gameboy-Advance/

This is why I dont like purchasing 3DS flashcards. They get patched and are not update-able. Ill stick to my cheap R4s that can only run DS games and homebrew.

It's a risk that you take. As for myself I decided before purchasing Sky that if it got blocked I was going to go back to being legit.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.
