Hey guys!

After reading a lot in your forums when i wanted my homebrewchannel on my old wii....and reading all about the things you guys might help me with my wii U soon xD ( big fan of cyan haha )... i now have a problem with my gateway 3ds ultra 3.2.

I bought it at a reseller called playmods.co.uk, got a red card, a blue card and a toshiba 32gb class 10 micro sd.

I have a 3ds xl firmware: 7.1.0-10E

i followed the guide for old 3ds coming directly from the gateway 3ds website but something seems not going so good here.

Im at the point that i have a format exfat sd card with a backup file from rune factory 4 on it in my red card in my 3ds xl and a another sd card fat32 with the newest launcher from gateway ( 3.3...might that be the problem? since my card is a 3.2...)

So i go with wifi off to the browser and open my bookmark with this website http:go.whatever.dontremembernow.com and turn on wifi while holding L button.

Here i have to say sometimes it just says "failed to load part of the site" and throws me back to the 3ds homescreen...

well one time it worked fine and i was in the gateway menu and updated my red card, after that i entered gateway mode and pressed select, saw the runefactory game and loaded it.
Game starts and after the 3ds logo i go directly to a screen saying "error" and that i should hold down the power button to reboot my 3ds....

So what is wrong?

Also seems that if i try to enter gateway menu ( pain in the assasin to reach that point without landing on the homescreen ) then i see the nice gateway logo ( dragon ) but without the menu and i land on the home screen where i can at least press select and choose the game again...just to fail at loading it :P

Long story, short sense: i need help, please?

You're not too dumb for Gateway.
But I'm honestly not sure what your issue is either. I would suggest you use the "delete all data" button in the browser and then try to load the Gateway go link again. Sometimes that solves issues people are having with the exploit. Do it without the GW card inserted, that should load up the GW menu without having to press L, then you should proceed to format emunand (this will delete everything on your 3DS SD card so back up anything you want to keep), and then make a NAND backup and store it somewhere safe in case you ever need it. You can use the GW without emunand, but it's safer with, and you can update the emunand to the latest version without updating your 3DS.
The game could simply be a bad dump. You should try other games and see if those work, if not, it might be a problem with your MicroSD card.

I guess i will need some more details and help there...

I tried now to put super mario 3d land on my exfat sd and tadaa the game seems to work, even played the first world first level.

But your whole "nand backup" "format emunand" seems not to work since i cant enter gateway menu.
thats how it looks for me: 4 pics from my phone xD

So it seems i enter gateway but then i just get forwarded to the homescreen where i can press select and choose a game to boot...btw rune factory doesnt work xD annoying

How can i go into the menu?
using my bookmark http://go.gateway-3ds.com only leads to the above result.

That is standard behavior. To enter the menu you either load the exploit without the GW cart inserted, or hold L when loading the exploit (as I already mentioned to you, but I guess you missed that part)

Try another dump of Rune Factory, or downloaded from a different website. It's probably just a corrupted download or a bad dump.

alright starting the exploit without gateway worked now, im in the gateway menu now and formating emunand, after that i will backup the nand and put it on an usb stick or something.

I readed somewhere that i should not update anything unless my firmware is called GW ver. 4.2-9.1...im kinda missing this GW before the firmware...
hope that question is not as dumb as im feeling while asking it

and 1 more tiny little question...can i also play ds games? and if..can i fight for example in pokemon Black wth my girlfriend and her ds lite?
so the question basically is if i can link with my 3ds xl with an ds lite :P

and thanks already, you were really a big help

You have the blue card for DS games, 3DS and DS Lite have always been compatible (with possibly a few exceptions but none that I know of) for DS games so you should be fine!

After you have emuNAND installed to your SD, boot GW without holding any buttons and you should boot directly into your new emuNAND. From there, open system settings and check for GWV_Numbers. If it's there, go directly to system update without exiting system settings and update your emuNAND. ONLY IF you see GW before the version number.

One side note: NEVER update by opening eShop in sys or emuNAND, it will always update sysNAND. Also, once you exit system settings if while in emuNAND, it will boot you to sysNAND and GW mode needs to be launched again. Be careful of that too!

It will only say "GW3D" in front of the version once you have emuNAND set up.
It's a good idea to keep multiple copies of your NAND backup. Keep one on the 3DS SD card if you have enough space, keep one on your PC, and one on an USB stick. It would suck to accidentally update your 3DS, or brick it by accident by messing with region changing, or installing system CIAs etc, and find that you've lost the only NAND backup you had. The risk is very low or nonexistant of bricking if you have emuNAND set up and you don't try any dangerous things on your 3DS but better safe than sorry.
Put one on dropbox if you like, it should be safe there and a free dropbox account has just about enough space for a NAND backup.

The GW blue card can be used with DS games but I believe it was patched in 6.x so you will need to install the bluecardfix.cia that came with the GW download to make it work again. This has to be installed on sysNAND, so do that after you have made a NAND backup so that you have a completely untouched/legit sysNAND backup.
To install the bluecardfix.cia:
1. Find and put devmenu.3ds on your GW, you can find it by googling the filename and looking at the youtube results at the top where there is a download link in the description. Not all versions will work, this is the right version that's guaranteed to work (verified this myself on a n3DS, and the hash matched the version other people have confirmed working as well)
2. bluecardfix.cia goes on your 3DS SD.
3. Load the Gateway menu (hold L)
4. highlight Gateway mode, hold B (it should change to "boot gateway sysnand mode") and press A while still holding B.
5. GW mode will boot, once booted, press select and load devmenu.
6. In devmenu, press right to highlight the SDMC tab, find your bluecardfix.cia and install it.

Note that you can't use the blue card from GW mode (only the red GW cart works in GW mode), but it can be used normally when you power on your 3DS, and it can also be used in classic mode.

You can turn on WiFi in emunand, and all you need to play online is the latest game update if there is one. This goes for Gateway, rxtools, and all other CFWs

To play online you need roms ending in .3dz or cia installs. If you dump a cartridge you can just rename the end from .3ds to .3dz but if it came from the Internet you have to add a header. Otherwise it is quite easy to install cia files. Find bigbluemenu.3ds and put it on your red cart. Find a cia (file ending in .cia) of the game you want and put it on your 3ds SD card. When in emuNAND start up tithe manager (from the Select screen and open the "game"), go to the second menu, select the file, and choose the option to install it (the top screen tells you what button to press). It will install to your home menu and you'll ne able to play it online just fine.

If you continue to use the browser exploit, I've found that I have to delete cookies and delete data almost every single time I use it for some reason. If I don't, it fails to load. I went ahead and downgraded the sysNand because of that. This will allow you to launch the Gateway exploit through the System Menu > Other Settings > Profile > Nintendo DS Profile setting, without relying on the browser or internet access.

When you run the exploit, if the Red Card is inserted, it will automatically start Gateway Mode (which allows you to press Select to get a list of games, as well as run installed programs). If you don't have emuNand set up, then it will boot sysNand instead, but in Gateway Mode, so it'll look like nothing happened at first glance.

I would strongly recommend setting up emuNand if you haven't already. This creates a 1GB partition on your system's SD card to hold a copy of the internal memory, which you can then update to a newer version. You should probably read the guides regarding this, especially the ones involving unlinking the two. Some games will require a newer System Version (which might be the case with Rune Factory), so emuNand can let you have that newer version while still being able to use the Gateway cards. If you set up emuNand and unlink them, you can also set the two to have different appearances, making it easy to know which you're in at any time.

NDS games can be played by using the Blue Card that came with the Gateway. The Blue Card does not work in Gateway Mode, and if you're running a version higher than 4.x, you might have to install BlueCardFix.cia in order to enable it again. Guides should be available on doing this, using BigBlueMenu or DevMenu. If you've already set up emuNand, you will need to make sure to run this in sysNand. By holding down the L button when running the exploit, you will be sent to the Gateway Launcher Menu. From there, highlight "Boot Gateway Mode", and hold B. The text will change to "Boot Gateway Sysnand Mode". While holding B, press A. It will ask you to confirm by pressing X. Once there, you can use your CIA installer to install the BlueCardFix to sysNand.

Playing 3DS games online will require you to use a Private Header. Basically, each game has a Card ID in its header, and if Nintendo's servers see two people using the same Card ID at the same time, they will ban you. You can use the Gateway Launcher menu to dump a 3DS retail card that you own, and then the Gateway Rom Patcher to extract the header from it, and apply the header to your other games. You can use any retail card to do this, it doesn't have to be the same title, or even an online game. You can use the same header for all games. You just can't have the same Card ID in use by multiple systems at once. When you patch the header, the Gateway Rom Patcher will rename it to .3dz automatically, which tells the Gateway card to allow it to play online. CIA versions of games install to the system's SD card, appear on the Home Menu, and don't have a header (they use the system ID instead), and so you don't have to worry about headers when dealing with them. Games only check that you have the latest version of their updates when you go to play online, they don't check System Version. (As in, if you want to play Pokemon OR/AS, and Update Version 1.4 is out, you'll need that to play online, and can be on whatever System Version you like as long as it'll run the game.) Getting the update requires either installing it as a CIA, or downloading it from the eShop (which will block you if you're not on the latest version, but you can get around that either with emuNand or spoofing).

I hope this helps answer some questions, and don't lose heart. The 3DS is a weird and wild thing, which makes just about anything related to it fairly complicated.
