if you had a nand backup before, try to restore using GW Downgrade function (Hold UP when entering). However, high chance to get a brick. It's better to have a hardmod.

If you have a Nand backup hit up @hundshamer and send 50 his way for a hard mod so you can flash back your nand whenever you need to.

I don't have emuNAND, I don't have Gateway.

And no NAND backups. I tried using the Gateway NAND backup tool a while back but the screen just froze so I gave up. Really regret that now.

I've gotten two so far from amazon for $208 and free 2 day shipping and plan to get a few more during my prime trial. Both came with 8.1

My suggestion is with a sky3ds you can region swap back and fourth system nand between JAP and USA or EUR, play cia 3ds, roms and have access to things like screen shot and language changes as well as eshop on the JAP side

My friend took my 3DS and turned it on, she had no idea what any of the buttons meant because it was Japanese and accidentally clicked the upgrade button.

I managed to turn it off before the progress bar went up but whenever I turn it back on it says it's upgrading...

Is there any way to cancel it or revert it back to normal (I'm willing to do a hard mod), or am I stuck on 9.8 and hope for another exploit?

Things I've tried that didn't work
-Recovery Mode
-Auto boot mode

Things that I can't do
-Restore sysNAND, don't have backup
-Restore emuNAND, don't have Gateway nor backup.

I literally just used 9.2 sysNAND and Pasta CFW to load CIAs.

Also I'm having trouble understanding your 2nd paragraph. I thought Sky3DS was just a plain flash cart.
