My cousin have a NDSi XL with the charging port busted and he also lost the battery. Is there any cheap battery replacement that doesn't require the port to charge? Something like the Nyko Charge Base for 3DS. Is it pretty much a lost cause?

I'm going to recommend that you send it to someone trusted for repairs. I think the 3DS' battery isn't compatible with the DSi although I may be wrong.

I kinda doubt you will attempt this but if you are feeling frisky with a soldering iron, the pinouts of a mini USB are the same as a DS proprietary pinout. The standard mini USB is a 5.2 volts and the DS uses 5.0 but im sure such a tiny difference would hurt anything.
