I have a sky3ds and I know it's possible to get banned for playing online if you use a 3ds file without a private header, but I've heard that CIAs use the console's ID, so is it safe to use CIA games installed through pastaCFW to go online and be safe from getting banned?

There is always a risk involved, nobody can give you a definitive answer. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Well as your using Sky3DS and not GW, I would assume your on 9.3 or higher thus you won't be able to install any cia's any time soon. If your 9.2 or below though it does work, I've never been banned so you shouldn't be banned either unless you use cheats XD

I don't think for using CIA's (at least from your own region.)
Don't know if you can get banned from using a Japanese CIA on an EUR 3DS and go online in Mario Kart 7.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they would message you and say "Please apply a private header to your cia because otherwise we will ban you for pirating/cheating"

I can say that nobody who uses Gateway (and doesn't use hacks/cheats in their games) who runs .cia files exclusively has reported being banned.

Doesn't meant they CAN'T do it. It just means that they haven't yet. It doesn't seem any more risky than using private headers.

Your post is probably the most nonsense post in this thread, more even than the one the OP posted.

We all know that, even if you ask to your grandma she will tell you that the most secure way to don't being caught is not doing that. So next time don't lose your time saying these things.

A further analysis on what is possible or not to detect knowing that nintendo has a limited knowing about what you do would be more interesting. So if you don't know what they can do or not please, don't make that useless posts. What are you looking for? Likes from persons that you don't know in a anonymous board? The funniest thing is that you don't notice your behaviour is more pathetic than the OP one.

Hi, I installed a "legit" MH4U CIA with Pasta while I was on a lower FW, then I was forced to do a system update to latest fw due to an unforeseen and unfortunate sem-brick (SysUpdater 0.4 :P).
However, MH4U still works and I even updated Mh4U to 1.1 via the eShop yesterday.

My question is, can I safely play this game online now, being on the latest FW?
Also if I get banned in the process of playing online with Mh4U, what does that mean?
Banned from what? Just from MH4U online, or the whole Ninto shebang?

Thanks

It's certainly possible, Nintendo have everything they need to detect pirated CIA installs, they can just check the currently playing game against the user's eShop account. It doesn't seem like they're too interested in banning pirates though, they're more of a passive-aggressive kind. There were one or two bans reported by Sky3DS users and then nothing since then. Seems like it was just an empty threat to scare people from using flashcarts rather than an actual attempt to punish pirates.

Hasn't he been banned before? Like... Just recently? I think it's because he linked to that one site that we all know about that we never talk about. He essentially mentioned fight club.

Whatchu mean? Lots of people were banned when the initial ban wave hit. There was like a 100+ page thread about it. Much more than 2 people were banned.

Only a couple were confirmed to be caused by using flashcarts, that I saw anyway. I didn't read every page of the thread but it seemed to be mostly people worrying about getting banned and not that many people who actually got banned.

It was more than 2 though. I thought we had over a dozen in the OP of the thread. Most were Sky users using Public headers, but some were Gateway users with Public headers. That was the key thing that they all had in common... Public headers. Also, they mostly played Smash and MK and Pokemon, but that may have been a coincidence. What's true is that nobody there reported being banned that NEVER used public headers.

Edit: There were 34 bans in the thread. And those were just who reported to GBAtemp.
