I always see it mentioned that some games cannot be patched to run on a lower fw. Is there a list anywhere, or does anyone know of any specific games that were released after fw 20 & 21, that cannot be patched to run on 19.0.1?

The only one I am aware that cannot be patched is Silksong. As for a list, I suppose it doesn't exist because not enough people have tried to patch games to run on 19.x.x

I personally patched Galaxy 1, Galaxy 2 and Octopath Traveler 0 to work on 19.x.x and they do, for what is worth.

Currently in the process of patching Metroid Prime 4 with Switch Army Knife, which will cheerfully set the required firmware to 0, whether or not the game/update actually requires a feature from a particular firmware.

AIUI we know what specific factor will determine whether it will work - the SDK version. NSC_Builder can tell you whether it is possible for a particular file. As I have independent confirmation that MP4:B will work on 19.0.1 when patched, I haven't been bothered sorting out the keys to let me check the SDK/FW number myself.

Maybe add a table to your original post to list the games/updates that we have confirmed working/not working, along with the data from NSC_Builder when known. Then it can be added to as people attempt patching.

It works on 19.0.1 FW, by patching to lower firmware with SAK (Swiss Army Knife) by using 21 prod keys (found online), placed in the SAK folder. Patched both base game, and update. I also used Awoo to install.

What option do you choose there? I want to patch System Shock 2 which has loading glitch for some reason. And Hitman Absolution which just throws an error

I did some digging around some time ago about patching Hades II and Silksong to work on 19,01 and stumbled across SaltyNX patches. It looked a bit sketchy to me, so I didn't try it, since I looked into it and couldn't find any information and reliable sources to back this up and wondered if anyone could share some knowledge on these patches. The directory path is this:

SaltySD\patches\0100A00019DE0000\_ZN2nn2oe16GetOperationModeEv.asm32
SaltySD\patches\010013C00E930000\_ZN2nn2oe16GetOperationModeEv.asm64

From the Read Me:

Used with SaltyNX

Note: that when docking or undocking, you will need to use ReverseNX-RT to switch the state

@retrofan_k _ I was able to patch Hades2 using SAK (Swiss Army Knife) to work on 19.0.1 FW, just a fyi. Didn't try Silksong though, as it's included already on Gamepass, I just play that on SeriesX.

Thanks. I just wanted to know if those SaltyNX patches are legit and work, if somebody has tried them because I have not seen any info about them.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 + 4 base game works on 19.0.1.0, but the update requires 20.1.1.0. Patching update to lower firmware in SAK and it works fine on 19.0.1.0. I haven't played through the entire game(s) but so far no noticable issues.

Expeditions Mudrunner base game requires v17, but the update requires 20.1.1.0. Patching update in SAK also works great on 19.0.1.0.

me too

Why not just update your FW? Just overwrite with the latest atmo files, use daybreak to update to latest FW and done. process literally takes less than 5 min.

The only game I've tried playing that wasn't patchable was Jelly Form (c.f. the only game I have tried and succeeded in patching was Metroid Prime 4). I bought it legitimately, but downloading from the eShop in OFW needs the latest version. I downloaded it illicitly from a couple of different sources and had assumed the 'Closed unexpectedly' error was from a bad dump, but looking at the SDK version in ?NSCB, it actually uses the newer SDK features. I'll wait to update until there's a bigger title that needs a newer firmware.

Homebrew. The latest firmware versions give you less memory for background modules. I don't think the ones I use most (Status Monitor, Sys-Clk) take much space, but what I have now just works. And if you use some more niche utilities, they might not have been recompiled to work with the latest FW. Plus the Virtual Game Card system breaks the way people used games if their family had multiple systems.
