Hi all,

Quick question. Will simply disabling SpotPass automated download prevent my emunand from automatically downloading firmware updates?

I'm keen to keep the internet connection on to access games but want to avoid getting the nag.

I've seen a few posts about doing actual network level blocks from the router, hoping that there is a more elegant solution. Thanks!

If you have wifi enabled and are connected to a network, it will download the update no matter what you disable. You learn to live with the nag after a while, just tell people to be careful when you lend it away, and keep backups of emunand ;)

Edit: Blacklisting nintendo servers will of course stop the update as you said, but if you plan on playing on networks when you travel, you might aswell get used to the nag.

Thanks! Realistic response.

I'll just man up and live with it!

If you get the nag, turn on your 3DS while holding Up, L, R, and A at the same time. It will boot your 3DS into a special "update mode" that Nintendo made for whatever reason and it deletes the update data so the nag goes away. Just turn the 3DS after entering this mode without doing anything else in that mode. Simply entering it deletes the data.

That is correct for sysnand but that method does not work for emunand which is the subject of this thread.

Some users have been able to delete the update from emunand by doing a comparison of the files download and using 3DNUS and fixing it on a file by file basis but that is very labor intensive and should only be attempted by advanced users.

Keep in mind that the only way to prevent this from happening is to disable wifi befor entering sleep mode EVERY TIME. Even if you have all your internet connection slots disabled the evil Nintendo Zones and Att hotspots can get download it to your console unless you have disabled wireless in the home menu.

Do you by chance know which files to install or a guide or post about it?

Here is a thread I made on the subject a couple of months ago. There seems to an oddball method apollocheese came up with that he says works at the end of the thread. I have not bothered with it and not seen a confirmation but as long as you make an emunand backup I don't think it can screw anything up permanently, It involves going into sleep mode for 10 seconds, allowing Nintendo to partially download the 9.7 update and then opening it up and disabling wireless.

Method to remove update nag from Emunand?
