Why wouldn't you, of course connections shall be always encrypted.
(Anyway, after heartbleed I don't know how much can anybody trust SSH and friends)

PS: Also, I have met many Prof. around Universities that may be somewhat cynical and addicted to conspiracy, but they surely are mindful regarding the real security provided by AES.

It doesn't make sense to use Remote Desktop over an SSH tunnel for security either. In general it just doesn't make sense to use Remote Desktop for security. I suspect that we're dealing with a phony hto60 got his terms mixed up!

Listenning IP traffic on quite old networks make you able to know whatever is going through the network, that means reading every HTTP requests you might make for example.
By using a remote desktop, you make it harder to understand what exactly you are doing for the hacker. Imagine the hacker is listenning what's doing on your remote controller's network, it begins to get tricky to understand for casual-hackers, for example hotels doing automatic blocks or stuff. Enough semi-off-topic for me now.

I've installed some stuff on my HomePC I'm using to develop an app, using my Skype and such without installing the needed Programs for it on this PC I'm using right now

Gonna vouch for him because I've used Team Viewer (As a portable application off my USB) to control my home PC and use applications on it that weren't able to be installed on the PCs I had at school, such as Skype and whatnot. Plus, it grants me instant access to all my files, so if I ever had an assignment on it and I forgot, I could just transfer the application using Team Viewer directly to me.

He unbricked it fast enough, I just kept waiting for it to arrive a couple of times. Also I've been on vacation to Bali for a month and I didn't want to deal with this situation from there.

More What? Anyways yeah I don't want to get distracted from the topic at hand, and that's 3DSGate 2015 over here. Security by obfuscation, thinks RDP traffic is unique, the phony is strong with this one!
