I've been playing Super Smash Bros 3DS for a while as a legit cart. But now that I have acquired the DLC as a CIA I would like to use the ROM instead. Is there a way to dump my retail save to use in gateway mode?

I'm on a 9.0 N3DS so I grabbed NTR (via cubic ninja) and got the lastest eshop update. My legit game works finally in SYSNAND But Classic Mode says I still need the update. I have savedatafiler but it doesn't look like it's going to help me. I dumped my game and retail save using the gateway menu and renamed the dumped "AXCE.sav" to it's proper titleID. When starting my legit Smash Bros ROM it says the data is corrupted and starts a new game. Is there anyway I can enjoy the .CIA DLC without starting over?

Try this, I had the exact same problem. Basically, after you dump the save with NTR, you need to 1) load your 3dz rom into the cart 2) use savedatafiler to dump the save 3) replace the dumped save with what you got from NTR 4) reimport the save, although you might run into a CTR-CARD BROKEN thing which is workaround-able

Wow...hey thanks! did everything and stuck on step 7 workaround. Not sure what to do with savedatafiler....It shows all my CIA save games but my gateway .3DS smash save is not there...Do I have to do this using a .CIA game save?

Make a copy of you smash save and rename it to 000400000FF40A00.sav

Now you can extract your save from CTR Card and follow the steps.

Before step 10, rename 000400000FF40A00.sav back to 00040000000EDF00.sav (overwrite the original one if it asks)

hmm...okay did that..now how can I replace my 000400000FF40A00.sav when NTR generates two .bin files? Savedatafiler is not finding 000400000FF40A00.sav in the root of my N3DS MicroSD card. I may be acting dumb here but i'm still stuck on the "replace" step. How can you replace something if both items are completely different?

Okay so you have your bin files from NTR right?

Take your AXCE.sav or 00040000000EDF00.sav and rename it to 000400000FF40A00.sav

Load your smash rom with the multimenu but don't launch it

Open savedatafiler, go to SD tab and delete all your smash backups you may have made already

Go to the first tab and press Y on "CTR CARD"

Turn off your 3ds and in your SD, go to filer->00000edf->save_data

Replace the bins in there with the ones you got from NTR

Finally, on your 3ds, Load the smash rom again and don't launch it

Open Savedatafiler and go to the SD tab

Highlight your save and select the option "import to CTR card" or something like that

Close 3DS, rename 000400000FF40A00.sav back to 00040000000EDF00.sav

You should now be able to load your save on your smash rom

Okay I'll revise:

Run your smash Rom once and let it create a new save for you

Close you 3ds and make a copy of 00040000000EDF00.sav and rename it to 000400000FF40A00.sav

SD tab only shows my CIA game backup saves (did not see EDF00) and yes.....CTR still broken. I even reinstalled savedatafiler. my NANDS are unlinked and i'm on EMUNAND

You wouldn't see EDF00 in the SD tab if you didn't make a backup at all, since CTR is still broken for you :/

So if you:

Run your smash Rom once and let it create a new save for you

Close you 3ds and make a copy of 00040000000EDF00.sav (the save you JUST made with your rom) and rename it to 000400000FF40A00.sav

Load your smash rom with the multimenu but don't launch it, open Savedatafiler

It STILL says CTR is broken?

Great! Yeah, to avoid compatibility or header problems, it's better to make sure the .sav matches the rom.

i'm copying the BIN files now...Thank you so much for sticking with stupid ol me xD

I really appreciate your patience

and thank you @Dragaan for showing me that link!

Yeah, it's weird, but I think what you're essentially doing is that you're renaming a rom save to SaveDataFiler's gateway generated .sav, which somehow fixes or injects itself into CTR-CARD when you run SaveDataFiler. (this is all baseless conjecture so don't take my word for it). Anyway, I'm glad you got it sorted out! I panicked just the same, because all I did was play Smash before I got my Gateway, and I didn't want to lose 40+ hours to play the updated version online
