Ok, so I'm going to make this a long rant, feel free to reply and post your opinions on it.

First let me commence with the beginning. Ok, I started playing Pokemon ORAS about 3 months ago, (I know I was late but whatever), Ocarina of Time was calling me to play it first. And when I do, first of all I fell in love with the new 3D graphics and the 3D cutscene/battle display. But THEN 20 something hours into it, maybe more, I decided to finally test out the online features available. And this is what I found:

EVERYONE IS CHEATING, and those that are not want to find out How!?!?

I when online to search for Pokemons, I had a Lotad and wanted to get a Seedot, but then I see people asking for stuff like Arceus Level 100, Mewtwo, Genesect (with text reading for 'shiny' please) and I'm like -_-

So inevitably I ended up losing my interest in the game. . . and resorting to using PKHex, giving myself a Waaay better team than I had before + acquiring items I though I'd never have more than 1 of.
Mind you I had already placed like 30 hours into the game and felt like I've accomplished so much (even though I had only 3 gym badges and and caught more than 50 Pokemon) but whatever . . . the point is.

Hackers Have DESTROYED Pokemon Online!!!!

I know this has existed since the dawn of Gameshark, and Powersave but how did you first feel when you discovered this? It doesn't have to pertain to ORAS, and could be from a previous Pokemon game.

No ones got 200 hours to go hunting for Shiny Shaymins! so I made one in just 2 :yaynds:

*****EDIT******
This rant isn't long enough, I need to add more. I mean I just felt so *disenchanted* with Pokemon once I discovered you could acquire everything much easier through illegitimate means.

I still love my first 50 or so Pokemons I've acquired regularly FAR more than the new 'badass' battle ready ones I've hacked, but I find the game so pointless now, like story mode doesn't interest me no where near as much as it did before. Like I haven't even bothered making a secret base that I feel comfortable building a gym yet.

And you destroyed offline for yourself by cheating. Good job.

Pretty much, except I still enjoy it. But HOW could anyone live playing offline, when they know something like this exist online? I can still enjoy it if I lie to myself about being Pokemon Master with my regular EV Combusken. But it's not true . . .

If you have no intention to play online like I do, I don't see the issue. There's no need for super crazy powerful teams in singleplayer anyway, you can just steamroll most of the game without too much trouble.

Hello there, and welcome to the GBATemp forums !

Destroyed seems a bit strong of a word for this topic.

Also, I do know this is a rant, but everyone that owns the game does not cheat/hack the game.

The GTS is a funny place, you can ask for pokemon that are untradeable on the GTS.

* most event pokemon now have a ribbon that prevents them from being traded online *

Though it really worries my that once you noticed an hacked pokemon online...you looked up how to hack and started hacking yourself >_<"

* especially before you beat the elite 4 or even the delta missions *

But as you said, hacking pokemon games has been around for a long time...there are online hack checks in place to prevent pokemon that could not possibly exist.

As far as the Pokémon - Video Game Championship goes...most people hack the parents with the egg moves, nature, and IVs that they want an breed a pokemon to use.

I gen for other people, and barely do any editing for myself. I'm not against cheating or piracy, but for Gen VI, the act of it should've been minimized. Why? Well, breeding is ridiculously easy, hence all my bred competitive pokemon, are legit. Sure Dittos I acquired from trades were probably genned, but the end product's a legit 5-6IV pokemon, or whatever spread necessary. Yeah I just made it so I have max money in Y, but only for doing the Sushi High Roller battles multiple times. Yeah I created a Rayquaza that has illegit moves, only for the triple battle format. Quick EXP gain and everything. I only edited EVs a handful of times, I did make it so I have multiple EV reducing berries.

These are small things though. I don't outright gen pokemon for myself to use in battle. It doesn't explain why I'm average at best in battling, a genned pokemon and legit one bare no difference other than the name tag and the means of creation. Strategy is strategy, but it does need mentioning that winning with my own pokemon has a more satisfying feeling than times I tested out genned pokemon (for legality). The phrase I like to use is "blood, sweat, tears," that's what training all those pokemon, and breeding did. I just maxed out my game time for Y, and in OR, I'm 800 hours in. I have the time, people who want genned pokemon, who do it for themselves, probably don't have the time, and need instant gratification.

That's what the world has come to now, and it's seeped into pokemon games in the form of cheating. Everyone wants something right now, and doesn't care too much for how it's delivered.

I'm basically 50/50 for cheating. I do it myself, but to an extent, I see why people resort to it. If Game Freak changed some things around, there wouldn't be cheating. An exact IV judge, more offline battle competitions (Battle Maison in all 4 games? REALLY?! I wanted Battle Frontier). Quicker ways to obtain/hatch eggs. Probably the biggest thing they should consider changing, is making legendaries breedable. That's the biggest one because breeding for a perfect non legend, is so damn easy. Somehow people still want genned non-legends, again back to instant gratification and/or lack of time and patience. If legendaries were breedable, nobody would ask for these legitimately improbable pokemon. Then again, their luster fades because then they're less distinct from non-legends.

Speaking of losing luster, freaking shiny pokemon. That's what annoys me the most, battling a team of all shinies. I have never bred a legitimate competitive shiny pokemon, and I hope I do, because that, whichever it will be, will be one of my most valuable possessions. Barely editing for myself, barely doing self service.

Anyways, I barely do online battles, I regularly just breed and train. I still haven't caught all the legends in ORAS, and I've had both games since launch day. The greatest extent of my cheating is simply viewing egg contents and deleting bad ones. It makes the breeding process quicker. Also for training in ORAS, I'd edit secret base trainers to have Blisseys. For EV training, other than berries, legit. So pretty much, I cheat to speed up processes that genning can do in just seconds.

At least it's still playing the game.

I know how you feel. When I played Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 back in 2003 on the GCN I witnessed an amazing game (when played legit) go down hill, all because of hackers. Since that experience I made my peace with it. I figured it would be a 'normal' phenominan for all systems and games that could be hacked... I was right :D

Cheating has been a big part of online gaming, most notably on the early FPS games. People that think it's something new haven't been around the block.

Yeah, that's basically what I do now also. I mean still play the game offline pretending I never got in contact with PokeHacks nor the online community and 90%'ish of the Pokemon I use are my own that I caught legitimately. But once I go online for battles and trading . . . it's on, (well maybe not if your trades are reasonable).

But, WOW when I first discovered this I was overblown. Mind you I use to hack for competitive Pokemons back in HG/SS's days but I never thought that Pokemon Hacking would grow to become THIS BIG.

Speaking of HG/SS, I tried cheating my way through SS. I used Action Replay to give out rare candies, leveling up my team so I could beat Red. So I did, but as I used Action Replay for the IV Checking in catching legendaries, the game was corrupted. That was the second time it did that by the way, both instances happening while booting, resetting and booting again SoulSilver. Basically, I was punished for cheating. My 3rd playthrough featured a better run against Red. On HG, I used Pokegen to drum up a team. I haven't played it since I made the edits. In fact, I haven't booted up the game since the edits, therefore I never saw the full team. I'm going to end up deleting all but the legit starter (Chikorita).

Even though I try to avert overly cheating on pre-Gen VI games, it sometimes beg for cheating. Battle Frontier challenges and whatnot. At least the Pearl I bought was preloaded with hacked 6IV complete dex in the PC, but before I could really exploit that, I got HG/SS, then BW/BW2, then XY, then ORAS.

Well, my opinion about this is, the game got better, cheating made online flourish. I had beaten the game completely, Maison and contests and all that other good stuff, and the only thing left for me was battling and breeding. Look, I'm practical, I don't want to spend like 4 days trying to breed a perfect 6iv shiny Pokemon with a perfect nature and egg moves... naturally, I lost interest in the game and I stopped playing. When I got a Gateway and found Pkhex, I picked it back up after I got all the Pokemon I wanted and I've been playing the game again since then, every day. Besides, if you want to make that argument, you might as well say that online was ruined once Powersave and Cyber Save Editor came out, same thing, only Pokehex does a lot more a lot quicker and a lot easier
