Hacking R4i 3DS Gold not working on 3DS

I have an R4i 3DS gold (r4ids.cn) that I have been using on my DS Lite for a while. I figured I'd give it a shot on my 3DS because apparently it should work. I finally got around to updating my firmware to Wood 1.64 and patched the card for 3DS 6.2, but when I try to enter it on my 3DS, I just get a "An Error has occurred. Please press and hold the power button and see the owner's manual".

I tried this on my 8.2 fw 3DS XL and my 9.2 3DS with the same results. It still works totally fine on my DS Lite.
I have another of the same exact flashcart, but that one did not want to do the 6.2 update (Cart: FAIL). It gets the same error message on the 3DS, but I didn't think that it would have different results regardless.

Are both of your cards revision C? (You can read the revision near the contacts. It's either a number or a letter).

The one that displays "Card Check failed" will not work with a firmware higher than 4.4. You have to cut a signal line of the other one:
7. After updating your r4i Gold 3DS card successfully, open the shell of your card, see the PCB picture below, cut off the signal line as shown by arrow in the yellow oval.

It worked, somehow! I have no idea how I would have found that out on my own.

Yeah, there were many problems with the "Revision C" cards. Some are faulty (like the one you can't update), some need the signal line to be cut (we don't know why) and some work without any changes with the newest firmware.
