Sorry if this doesnt belong here but can you run emulators on the gamepad screen and use the buttons on the gamepad to control the game? Or is it screen only and wii mote controls?

As of now, you cannot use the gamepad as a controller for emulators. These emulators can only be played in Wii mode. However, once the userland exploit and kernel exploit are released it will be possible to play emulators in Wii U mode, so we would be able to use the gamepad. I don't think an IOSU exploit is necessary for emulators.

I Think there is a vWii IOS that has control of the gamepad. correct me if I'm wrong.

If it were that easy to control the gamepad from vWii, we would be playing Super Mario Bros. on FCEUltraGX with it instead of the Classic Controller.

I did not say anything was easy. so there's not a vWii ios that uses the gamepad?

Edit: I can't seem to find any info on that vWii IOS. I could be wrong haha

AFAIK, the gamepad (in vWii) is managed through some piece of software that we cannot currently access/decrypt. I suspect that once we have the vWii common key, then the program the manages the gamepad can be decrypted and reverse-engineered.

It does not have access to the DRH (Gamepad communication module), cafe2wii just configures a special 8-bit chip (the DMCU) to act as the Video Interface and forward pixel data to the Gamepad.
If hyken gets that exploit done eventually, will that lead to the other keys being released and therefore lead to more access to these modules?

Theoretically cafe2wii could be changed to not block the DRH from vWii access. But there's still a lot of vWii IOS support code to write, making the Gamepad expose a Wii Remote Bluetooth interface.

I got bored and did a thing

Having the drive run constantly, leading to faster load times in digital download games.
If Wii U mode is anything like Wii mode concerning the usb hdd, if the drive goes to sleep while playing a game, the game will lock up when it tries to load from the drive.

Actually it is a bit more flexible, when I was messing with it, I removed my external HDD during some loading screen and the game got stuck but continued once I reconnected the HDD.
