Hacking N3DS XL Firmware by version number

Just like to confirm this guy. I also bought my EU metallic Black xl yesturday from shopto in the UK as well and it's serial is QEH1015 9.0 Firmware. It's only £169.95 including free next day delivery. best place to get it in the UK I would say and customer support were really useful when I asked if they could check the stock. From the email I got back he said there's quite a few left in stock so get them while they're there.

Out of curiosity, do u know whether your screen is IPS or TN, unfortunately my one turned out to be TN. The yellow tint on screens.

Urmmm I'm guessing IPS, I don't think it's TN because there's not much yellow tint. Apparently the New 3ds has TN panels but the New 3ds xl has IPS panels.

Just my luck, My black N3DSXL colours are washed out and yellow compared to my blue N3DSXL.

The yellow tinting is caused by an improperly calibrated color temperature on the backlight, and it affects both TN and IPS. Some have it, others don't, some are pinkish, others bluish, others yellowish. It's random.

I'd return it if you can if you're unhappy with it, otherwise you might get used to it over time but it'll never go away :/

It seems only 4XXX consoles have a risk of 9.4 so I would go for it.

Worst case scenario, you get the wrong version(which I honestly doubt) and return it.

On US/EU consoles it should be located on a sticker on the side of the box. For Japanese consoles, it may not be shown on the box at all.

on the outside of the box. Just look around, it should have a thin barcode, with the s/n under.

For US consoles the serial number is on the top of the box I believe. EU consoles have a tiny serial number sticker on the bottom of the box and AUS and JAP consoles don't even have the serial numbers on the box at all. You need to open the box and look at the warranty card to see the serial number without touching the console for these :/

Went to Target and all the black n3ds had QW1038. I figure they're the same fw grouping as the MM QW1038 9.4+ fw.
I didn't risk a buy. Dang it. The hunt for a local store <9.4 continues....

This list helped me find a console with 9.0. Did a board swap into a monster hinter console I bought locally that had already been updated. Works like a charm.

Just got this today. Now I wait for proper 8.1J GW support. If that's coming, that is.

I can confirm that you will not find the serial number on the box, at least not on a JP model.

Can you link the guide/instructions you used for the board swap? This was a "new" 3ds right?
