Question: Would something like sunshell be possible for Wii U?

I figure, a custom shell for Wii U would also be a good homebrew launcher and update blocker as it would replace CafeOS. (Am I right about that?)

There's been talk of replacing the loader, yes.

Awesome! That would be a much better solution vs a "channel", especially since the Wii U is a "connected" console. Replacing the launcher would basically block Nintendo by default.

If such a beast is created, please keep the UI as customizable as possible!

Something that just popped into my head: What about an Android based launcher?

Freedom by crediar anyone?

Ahhhh the good 'ol days .

Wouldnt this require an IOSU exploit to get the console specific NAND keys though? Without those keys, there's no replacing the OS unless its running off external media or something (emuNAND, or off an sd like trinux etc).

Correct me if im way off here. Perhaps you guys have something else in mind altogether...

Even if you had all the keys you couldn't replace anything by your own code or patch anything on the NAND permanently.
Installed content is now verified on launch (this wasn't the case on the Wii).
This means no homebrew channel unless someone finds bug in their chain of trust.

Tough some major exploit can always happen but currently I'd say an emuNAND (UNEK? :P) is the best option.

yeah, from my understanding the only way you are going to 'replace' the 'OS' is to circumvent a stage before it loads. other than that you will need to A; load a custom/patched 'OS' from some other media after an exploit. or B: Load 'OS' patches over current 'OS' in RAM after an exploit.

It might be possible to gain more understaning about how the vWii sandbox is designed if we can attack it from both the vWii and Wii U sides.

Well that would require an IOSU exploit to dump the Starbuck keys to decrypt cafe2wii, which tells you everything you need to know.

So getting back on topic, first of all, good job and thanks to all involved, max respect! Second, (I can't remember seeing this) would this allow us to make homebrew that can really use the gamepad's features? I.E. Touchscreen interface, motion controls, NFC etc. Or is that something else entirely?
